Outscore eight opponents 126-28 and go undefeated in eight games. That's what the Virgin Valley fast-pitch softball team achieved in winning the Desert Winds tournament at Mesquite last weekend.

The Lady Bulldogs, coached by Becca Lunt, defeated Beaver Dam (Utah) 11-0 and 13-2, Nevada Class A Wells 20-1, 18-2 and 7-5, Beatty 23-11 and 17-2, and Laughlin 17-5. Wells had defeated Virgin Valley 11-10 a week earlier in a tournament at Laughlin.

Leading the Southern Nevada Class 3-A League Bulldogs offensively were Courtney Spawn, Jacque Olive and Ashley Simmons. Manbdi Fowles had big games defensively at third base and catcher Kim Martinez emerged as the team's leader both offensively and defensively.

In the Cactus Classic baseball tournament, Page (Ariz.), with a 6-5 conquest of host Virgin Valley, won the championship.

Virgin Valley, 10-2 in all games going into Clark County's spring break, was to play Dixie High at St. George (Utah) Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs defeated Beatty 12-0; lost 8-1 to Page; defeated Juab (Utah) 9-5 and Abundant Life (Utah) 20-0 to advance to the title game.

In baseball, Boulder City lost 13-5 to Rim of the World (Calif.), Monday in the Blazer Spring Break tournament at Durango. The Eagles were to play El Camino Real (Calif.), Tuesday.

In softball, the Fred Davison Memorial got underway Monday in Las Vegas, minus Pahrump Valley for the first time in six years.

Knight, Calif., defeated Southern 3-A Faith Lutheran 10-0, which later lost 13-12 to San Diego Madison. The Crusaders were to play Otay Ranch (Calif.), Tuesday before the bracket rounds began.
