![]() Edwin Ingram Smith Edwin Ingram Smith, 90, passed away Feb. 28, 2008, in Pahrump. He was born Oct. 16, 1917, in El Paso, Texas and was a resident of Pahrump for 27 years, having come from Parker Dam, Calif. He worked for the metro water district and was a Merchant Marine. Smith enjoyed gardening, socializing with friends, traveling and working on older cars. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His sons Charles and Brice Smith; daughter Norma Lebaron; brother Clyde Smith; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive him. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., March 8 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the corner of West and Wilson. The family requests no flowers. (02/28/2008) ![]() Suzy Christian Davis It is with great sadness that the family of Suzy Christian Davis (nee Gilstrap) announces her passing after a sudden heart attack, on Sunday, March 9, 2008. She was 71. Suzy will be lovingly remembered by her children Jeri Sue (Ron) Maxwell, Larry Dillard, Joe (Debbie) Dillard, and Marie (Nick) Strange. Suzy will also be sadly missed by her eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, and beloved sister Joyce Costa of Senora, Calif. A celebration of Suzy's life will be held March 15 at 4 p.m., The Rock Vineyard Church, 1370 E. Matthew Ln. Pastor Kenny Simpson will officiate. (03/09/2008) ![]() Calvin 'Dean' Slutz Calvin 'Dean' Slutz, 80, passed away Feb. 20, 2008, in Pahrump. He was born Nov. 23, 1927 and lived in Pahrump for 31 years, having come from Las Vegas. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard and was a mechanic. Club and organization memberships included the Pahrump Moose Lodge, NRA, Whittington Center, Chief Petty Officer Association Local and Int., Pahrump Cowboy Shooter Association and S.A.S.S. His wife Marilyn Slutz; nephew Stan Slutz; mother of his children Carol Slutz and three grandchildren survive him. He was preceded in death by son Michael Slutz; daughter Patrice Loar and his brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., March 15 at the Lee Funeral Home Chapel. (02/20/2008) ![]() James Lewis Hart James Lewis Hart, 38 passed away March 9, 2008 in Las Vegas. He was born March 19, 1970 in Portland, Ore. and was a long-time resident of Southern Nevada. He attended Western High School and went to work for the local plasterer's union until he became ill. His wife Bridget; children James (16) and Alexis (14); brother Stephen Lee Hart of Las Vegas; sister Kathy Feeley of Las Vegas; six nephews and two nieces survive him. James was preceded in death by brother Paul Lehi Hart; mother Tempie Margaret (Smith) Hart and father Ivan Lee Hart. Funeral services will be 7 p.m., March 14 at the Pahrump LDS Church, corner of West Street and Wilson Road. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hart family benefit account at any Bank of America. (03/09/2008) ![]() Verle 'Mac' McCullough Verle 'Mac' McCullough, 68, passed away peacefully March 11, 2008, in his home in Pahrump. Mac was born to Flossie and Benjamin McCullough on January 31, 1940, in Tulsa, Okla. He enlisted in the Army in 1957 at the age of 17. After a distinguished 23-year career with duty stations in Hawaii, Germany and two tours in Vietnam, he retired in 1980 at the rank of master sergeant. He moved to Pahrump in 1988, where he started Mac's Recycling. He operated the business until his final retirement in 2004. His son Roger bought the business. Mac's hobbies included gardening, watching University of Oklahoma football and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, JoAnn of Pahrump; sons Bruce and Roger of Pahrump and Ricky of Purcell, Okla.; daughters Tonya Mason of Flowery Branch, Ga. and Penny Schwartz of Claremore, Okla.; sisters Dorothy MacFarland and Mazie Brown of Oklahoma; brother Steve of Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A special military ceremony will be held at Chief Tecopa Cemetery, 3 p.m., Friday, March 14. (03/11/2008) ![]() Norman W. Forsythe Norman W. Forsythe passed away March 7, 2008, at his home in Pahrump. Born in St. Paris, Ohio, Norman was raised in Urbanna, and was a 14-year resident of Pahrump, having come from Las Vegas, where he had spent 40 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on desroyer escorts as a signalman. Upon returning, he became a firefighter for the Urbanna Fire Department until he left for Las Vegas. He worked for the city department in Las Vegas until the Clark County department was formed. He retired as battalion chief after 25 years of service. Norman was the last of the original men who formed the department. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Carol; sons Gary and David; daughters Judith and Valerie; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons Michael and Timothy. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., March 17 at St. Martin's in the Desert Episcopal Church. The family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice. (03/07/2008) |
