Town board approves PETT wish list
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
When it comes to government funds, the time to turn in your wish lists comes much earlier than December. So Nye County commissioners will soon receive Pahrump's list of capital improvement projects the town would like funded with county payment equal to taxes money, or PETT funds. One of the town's priorities is improving the community's parks. Although the park projects were included in last fiscal year's request, they were not approved by the commissioners. The town is submitting, again, a request for $250,000 which, if approved, would replace the field lights at Honeysuckle Park where many Little League and soccer games are played. An additional $100,000 request was made to improve the park's passive lighting for evening events and the safety of park users. Another $100,000 was requested to improve the infrastructure of Blosser Park, including constructing a playground and restroom facility. Petrack Park, according to the list, is in need of new lighting for it's A and B fields, and the town will need $200,000 for that project. Al Balloqui, chairman of the Pahrump Alliance Valley Economic Development organization, requested that $300,000 be added to the list to extend a Mountain Falls pipeline to the proposed Pahrump Arts and Recreational Center (formerly known as the fairgrounds). Balloqui pointed out that when PARC opens, it will need water, and this would be a good way to lay the groundwork for the facility's success. The list also includes a number of additions for the Pahrump Valley Fire-Rescue Service. A $300,000 grant is being requested to provide the department with 50 self-contained breathing apparatus packs and 50 spare bottles. Also on the list is a request for $75,000 for 50 sets of protective turnout gear to replace the department's older gear. Hoping to replace two of the town's older, high-mileage ambulances, the town is also requesting $250,000. And finally, a request is being made for a replacement fire brush truck that would cost $185,000. |
