A Saturday morning fire that gutted the interior of a doublewide on Dyer Road resulted in the deaths of two residents.

Pahrump Valley Fire-Rescue Service elements, having been dispatched to a separate incident to investigate smoke down the street earlier, was only about a minute away from the structure fire when it was reported at 8:16 a.m.

Upon arrival fire-rescue workers found Gene Kelly with serious injuries outside and a report of a woman inside the building.

The man was administered first aid and taken to Desert View Regional Medical Center.

A rescue of the woman still inside the burning stucture was attempted but the firefighters were unable to reach her.

Once the fire was controlled, Irene Kelly was found inside the gutted interior and pronounced dead at the scene.

Gene Kelly, who according to a neighbor was in his seventies, succumbed to his injuries Monday afternoon.

Fire Chief Scott Lewis said the cause of the fire is being investigated but that it is thought to be accidental.
