Homemade bomb detonated Two 15-year-old juveniles were detained by the Nye County Juvenile Probation office Friday, March 7 for detonating a homemade explosive device in the parking lot between Pahrump Valley High School and Great Basin College. There were no injuries. Sheriff's deputies were dispatched at approximately 9:50 a.m. for a report of an explosion. According to the sheriff's press release, one of the juveniles handed the bomb to the other young man, telling him to throw it because it was going to explode. The latter youth put the device on the ground and fled the area as the device exploded. A third juvenile on the scene reportedly attempted to apprehend one of the suspects but was unable to detain him. Pahrump Fire-Rescue Service and a Nye County Emergency Services hazmat team were dispatched to the scene. The deputy reportedly "could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle" in addition to observing "indicators of criminal activity and extreme nervousness on the part of the driver." A probable cause search of the vehicle unearthed a Coca-Cola can with a false compartment containing 14.8 grams of methamphetamine ICE (crystal meth), 1.3 grams of marijuana and unspecified additional drug paraphernalia. Snyder was taken to the Beatty jail and booked for speeding, possession of marijuana, open container in a vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, trafficking methamphetamine, using/being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell.
