BEATTY -- The Beatty High School baseball team was to open its 2008 spring season Thursday, with a doubleheader at Henderson International School.

Monday, coach Brian Hayes' Nevada Class A Central Division team is to host Class 3-A Mesquite Virgin Valley in a twin bill starting at 1 p.m.

Beatty's fast-pitch softball team is also at home Monday to play the Bulldogs. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.

Both the baseball and softball teams travel March 13-15 to Mesquite for tournaments hosted by Virgin Valley. Pairings were not announced.

Beatty's division seasons start March 21, with the Hornets traveling to Round Mountain.

In baseball, Beatty will play March 25 at Virgin Valley, March 31 at Trona, Calif., April 4 at home against Tonopah, April 8 at home against Sandy Valley, April 11 at home against Pahranagat Valley Alamo, April 18 at home against Spring Mountain, and April 25 at Indian Springs.

The dates and opponents are the same in softball, except on April 18. The Hornets are idle that day, but will go to Sandy Valley April 22.

Regional tournament dates in both sports are May 9-10. Wells, assuming its baseball and softball fields will be playable, will host the state tournaments May 15-16-17.

Wells was hit by a 6.0 earthquake two weeks ago and sustained heavy damage to its business area and the high school.
