GIRLS SOCCER MOVES

Trojans' 4-A fall schedule will be hectic

Tentative schedules for Pahrump Valley High School's inaugural Class 4-A Sunset Region Southwest Division fall sports seasons proved one thing; Trojan fans will spend a lot of times on the road to watch football, soccer and volleyball.

Pahrump Valley, currently in the Southern Nevada Class 3-A League with Boulder City, Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, Overton Moapa Valley and Mesquite Virgin Valley, will be in a nine-school league for every sport.

The Southwest teams are all Las Vegas based: Bonanza, Clark, new school Desert Oasis, Durango, Bishop Gorman, Sierra Vista, Spring Valley and Western.

How the schedules will break down:

Football -- PVHS is to open Sept. 5 at home against Desert Oasis in a non-league game; on Sept. 12, the Trojans will go to Faith Lutheran, where the Crusaders now play on a $520,000 artificial turf field.

In succeeding weeks, PVHS will play Bonanza, Western, Durango, Clark, Spring Valley, defending state 4-A champion Bishop Gorman and Sierra Vista.

Volleyball -- Pahrump Valley's first match is at home Sept. 4 against Henderson Liberty.

The Trojans will play Centennial, Clark, Durango, Sierra Vista, Bishop Gorman, Western, Desert Oasis, Bonanza and Spring Valley in a sequence that ends Oct.7; Clark, Durango, Sierra Vista, Durango, Sierra Vista, Gorman, Western, Bonanza and Spring Valley are opponents in a second round that concludes Oct. 29.

The regionals are Nov. 4-7, with the state tournament the following week at Reno.

Boys Soccer -- The Trojans open Sept. 2 at home against Liberty; two days later, they travel to Centennial.

Clark, Durango, Sierra Vista, Gorman, Western, Desert Oasis and Bonanza will be played before the Trojans have a bye Sept. 25.

Starting Oct. 1, the Trojans will play Spring Valley, Clark, Durango, Sierra Visata, Gorman, Western, Desert Oasis, Bonanza and Spring Valley before the regular season ends Oct. 29.

The Southern regionals are Nov. 1-8, with the state tournament the following week.

Girls Soccer -- Class 4-A soccer for girls has been switched from the winter to the fall by the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association.

Pahrump Valley's opener will be at home Sept. 3 against Liberty; on Sept. 5, PVHS travels to Centennial.

Starting Sept. 9, the Trojans will take on Clark, Durango, Sierra Vista, Gorman, Western, Desert Oasis, Bonanza, Spring Valley, Clark, Durango, Sierra Vista, Gorman, Western, Desert Oasis, Bonanza and Spring Valley, with bye dates of Sept. 24 and Oct. 24.

Regional tournaments will be played Nov. 1-8, with the state tournament the following week.

Girls golf and cross country schedules are not as yet available.

NOTES -- Larry Goins, the athletics director at Sierra Vista since that school opened in 2001, will hold a similar position at Desert Oasis, when that school opens for the first time in August ... Goins was formerly the AD and a coach at Pahrump Valley High School ... In the Sunset Northwest are Arbor View, Centennial, Cheyenne, Cimarron-Memorial, Legacy, Mojave, Palo Verde and Shadow Ridge ... In the Sunrise Southeast are Henderson Basic, Coronado, Foothill, Green Valley and Liberty, along with Las Vegas Del Sol and Silverado ... Canyon Springs, Chaparral, Desert Pines, Eldorado, Las Vegas, Rancho and Valley are in the Sunrise Northeast.
