Pahrump to host first annual Bluegrass Festival
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
The sounds of bluegrass will soon be twanging through Pahrump during the first annual Bluegrass Festival. The three-day festival is set to begin Friday, March 14 at 3 p.m., and the music and fun will last all weekend until Sunday, March 16 at the VFW. The event will feature bluegrass headliners Chris Stuart and Back Dr. Elmo and Wild Blue (of "Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer" fame), and Stuck in Reverse. On Friday, the music will go from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., but that's just a warm-up for the rest of the weekend. Saturday promises to be a fun-filled day with music from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., punctuated by a band scramble at noon and fiddle contest at 2 p.m. The Boy Scouts will be selling hamburgers and hotdogs so you can chow down while you enjoy the music, and the VFW will have a beer booth. The proceeds from both the Boy Scouts' booth and the VFW, will go to support charitable causes. There will be other vendors selling crafts and food as well. If all that weren't enough, you might leave the festival with a new member of the family since West Star Ranch Old Dog Rescue will have dogs up for adoption at the event as well. Sunday will be another day where drums aren't necessary for lively music, which will start at 10 a.m. The headliners are slated to play Saturday evening and Sunday at noon. The event is being sponsored in large part by various community businesses and organizations including the VFW and the Pahrump Arts Council. The VFW is located at 4651 S. Homestead Rd. |
