Prep rodeo at McCullough

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association tour hits Pahrump this weekend at McCullough Arena. The Wrangler Rodeo for junior high-age cowboys and cowgirls is Friday, starting at noon. Competition starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday, with more than 150 high schoolers expected to participate.

Pahrump Valley will host a Nevada High School Rodeo Association event at McCullough Arena Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

More than 150 boys and girls from high schools all over Nevada will compete.

Also scheduled is a Wrangler Junior Rodeo event, starting at noon Friday in the arena.

Wrangler events for girls are barrels, goats, breakaway, poles, ribbon roping and team roping. The boys' competition will be in bull riding, goats, breakaway, calf tying, ribbon roping, team roping and chute doggin'.

Action Saturday begins at 9 a.m, with 8 a.m. the starting time Sunday. Events are bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, goat tying, barrel racing, pole bending and bull riding.

Cheryl Tibbits of the PVHS club is handling the arrangements for the rodeo; for information, call 764-7744.

A mandatory contestants meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. It is the sixth rodeo of the season for the NHSRA.

The state finals rodeo will be June 18-22 at Winnemucca.

The National Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo is June 29-July 5 at Gallup, N.M. The National High School Finals Rodeo is July 20-26 at Farmington, N.M.
