Faith Lutheran's Wright MVP in state 3-A basketball

Three Pahrump Valley players were named to Nevada Class 3-A All-State basketball first teams, by vote of coaches. Kristi Daffer (43), above, is a 6-foot junior center who averaged almost 10 points and eight rebounds per game for the Trojans, who finished 25-8.

Brittany Orr (10) was one of the state's better defensive players as she averaged 4.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

Darius Dolly (12), a senior point guard, averaged 17 points per game for the 17-14 Trojans.

Diontea Wright, who helped lead Las Vegas Faith Lutheran to its fourth straight Nevada Class 3-A boys' basketball title, was named the most valuable player, by a vote of Silver State coaches.

Wright was on a first team that included the Crusaders' Connor Maloney, along with Darius Dolly of Pahrump Valley, Zack Quilici of Sparks, Tannar Wood of Dayton, Josh Dykstra of Incline and Casey Wildermuth of Yerington.

Second-team selections were Max Done, Faith Lutheran; Micha Cornell, Incline; Max Jenkins and Shaun Hilton, Overton Moapa Valley; David Morrell, Spring Creek and Joe Crabtree, Fernley.

Among those receiving honorable mention were Marvin Weekly and Trent Ward of Pahrump Valley.

Bret Walter of Faith Lutheran and T.W. Cunningham of Dayton were co-coaches of the year.

Courtney Spawn, a senior guard from Mesquite Virgin Valley, was named the MVP in state 3-A girls' basketball.

On the first team along with Spawn were Pahrump Valley's Kristi Daffer and Brittany Orr, along with Karrie-Ann Quartz and Kayla Lommori of the state champion Yerington Lions.

Completing the top seven players were Winnemucca Lowry's Morgen Thacker and Savannah Carlo.

On the second team were Brittney Lindgren, Pahrump Valley; Rachel Morris, Virgin Valley; Lacy Rider, Spring Creek; Breanna Busby, Truckee (Calif.) and Meghan Smith, Faith Lutheran.

Megan Meads of Pahrump Valley was honorable mention.

Dorsey Thom of Yerington was named coach of the year.
