SPORTS BRIEFSHunter safety The Nevada Department of Wildlife and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation are co-sponsoring a hunter safety course in Pahrump. The course is mandatory for all first-time hunters. The dates and times for the course in Pahrump: March 17, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 18, 6 to 8. March 19, 6 to 8. March 20, 6 to 8. March 21, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To register for the course, go to the Web site (www.ndow.org) and complete the on-line work. Track starts March 15 at Pahrump Valley High School, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Skate Zone The Sharks defeated the Dragons 7-4 in a 5-10 Roller Hockey League game at the Skate Zone. Austin Young had four goals, with Noah Jubinski and Garrett Lucas adding three each for the Sharks. Brayden Williams had three goals for the Dragons. In a 10-to-15 contest, the Ice Hawks, with Sam Tucsnak scoring five goals, downed the Stars 8-5. Kason Muncrief had two goals for the winners and Sierra Tucsnak had two for the Stars. In games Monday, the Sharks defeated the Dragons 11-0, and the Ice Hawks edged the Stars 3-2. William Lucas scored four goals, while Garrett Lucas, Noah Jubinski and Austin Young added two each for the winners. Wes Fullmer also scored for the Sharks. Keep score? The Pahrump Valley Softball Association is seeking people who can keep score. Adults are preferred, but anyone who is interested will be trained. Sertoma tilt The Sparks Sertoma Club announced that its 27th annual for-charity Football Classic will be played June 20 at Mackay Stadium, on the University of Nevada campus in Reno. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. Two teams, the Silver and Blue and comprised of 50 players each, will compete; the athletes will be drawn from 33 Class A, 2-A and 3-A teams in Nevada, Lake Tahoe and Truckee, Calif. Cody Neville of Yerington and Dan Avansino of Reno will be the head coaches. Rosters will be announced. Camp in March Advantage Basketball is accepting registration for a basketball camp March 17-18-19-20 at the Tarkanian Academy in Las Vegas. The times are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Junior golf Only 11 boys and girls competed in a Pahrump Valley Junior Golf Association tournament last weekend at the Lakeview Executive course. The scores were: 7-8 boys -- Lucas Tietjen 49, Craig Moore 53, Parker Hart 56. 9-11 boys -- Josh Little 43. 15-18 girls -- Ashley Keller 41-39--80. 12-14 girls -- Cheyenne Dixon 39-40--79. 15-18 boys -- Daniel Shimakawa 37-33--70; Josh Spradlin 42-38--80. 12-14 boys -- Sam Tietjen 42-41--83, Zack Harris 50-48--98, Shawn Dixon 49-51--100. 10-Star camp Applications are being evaluated for the Ten-Star All-Star Summer Basketball camp.
