Marcia Joy Gasparik

Marcia Joy Gasparik, 56, passed away Feb. 20, 2008, at Spring Valley Medical Center in Las Vegas.

An intermittent resident of Pahrump since 1986, Marcia had returned home in the last couple of months to be with her mother.

She lived in Sheldon, Iowa for the past nine years.

During her years in Sheldon, she was employed by Ed's Cafe.

During her years in Pahrump she was a long-time and valued member of the news staff covering a multitude of events for the Gateway Gazette.

She is survived by mother Corine Kiefer of Pahrump; daughter Heather Carpenter of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; brother Barry Kiefer of Succasunna, N.J. and grandchildren Tiffany, Brandon and Nichole of East Stroudsburg, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her father Frank Kiefer of Pahrump.

She will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Cremation was handled by the Neptune Society of Las Vegas. Services were private. (02/20/2008)

Douglas N. Tobias

Douglas N. Tobias, 80, winter resident of Pahrump and formerly of Nappanee, Ind., passed away Feb. 23, 2008, in rural Clark County.

He married Beatrice "Bea" Linn, Jan. 25, 1948. She died Oct. 28, 1998.

He is survived by his son Brett (Terri) Tobias of Middlebury, Ind.

The services were Feb. 28 in Nappanee. (02/23/2008)

Noah S. Poulos

Noah S. Poulos, 45, passed away March 1, 2008, in Las Vegas.

He was born May 7, 1962, in Oakridge, Ore., and was a resident of Pahrump for four years, having come from Round Mountain.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

His wife Kathi Poulos; son Noah Poulos Jr.; daughter Morgan Poulos; mother Dorothy Poulos; sister and brother-in-law Laura Lee and Merle Schwartzwalter; brother Rodney Poulos of Las Vegas; sister and brother-in-law Danice and Brad Balint of Richfield, Wash.; nieces Shauna and Debbie of Pahrump and nephews Chris and Sam of Richfield and six great-nieces and nephews survive him.

He was preceded in death by his father Fred Poulos and grandparents Noah and Mary Mickey.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m., March 8 at the VFW on Homestead Road. (03/01/2008)

Charles E. Holtz

Charles E. Holtz, 91, passed away on Feb. 15, 2008, in Las Vegas.

Charlie was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Warren, Pa. to Chester Holtz and Florence Highouse. His parents would later move the family to Erie, Pa., where Charlie, his two brothers and one sister grew up.

In 1941 Charlie married Helen Flanagan, of Erie, and became the father to four sons.

In 1950, he moved his family to Downey, Calif. to accept a lucrative position with Aero Jet. In 1968, he moved to Amargosa Valley.

Charlie worked at the Nevada Test Site as a physicist and an electrical engineer. He would also work for Timex in Henderson and part time at IMV. He served as a Math Teacher in Amargosa, and was one of the first directors of Valley Electric.

Charlie is a 53-year member-in-good-standing of the Bellfleur Masonic Order, in Downey, Calif., and a Veteran of the Armed Forces, Amargosa Art Guild Charter Member, Amargosa Sky Club and Erie, Pa., Chess Club.

Charlie's wife of 7 years, Ruby H. Happel-Holtz; sons David A. Holtz, Robert C. Holtz, James L. Holtz and Steven G. Happel; daughters Krisann H. Morel, Algene H. Wucinich and Peggietta H. Gorman; brother Donald Holtz, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren survive him.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Holtz; son Richard Holtz; brother Richard E. Holtz and sister Jeannie Bannister.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the Amargosa Community Center in Amargosa Valley. (02/15/2008)

Jimmie Hooker

Jimmie Hooker, 65, passed away Feb. 19, 2008, in Las Vegas.

He was born Feb. 1, 1943, in Townley, Ala., and lived in Pahrump for 20 years, having come from Las Vegas.

He worked at the Nevada Test Site.

His wife Zoe Hooker; daughters Zoe Ann Warren and Rhonda Reyes and five grandchildren survive him.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., March 7 in the chapel at Lee Funeral Home, 720 S. Buol Lane. (02/19/2008)
