Crime Report
Check the sticker Three adults and five juveniles were arrested Saturday, Feb. 15 for their alleged involvement in purchasing and selling several computers stolen from the Nye County School District in January. Although some computers have been recovered, according to the sheriff's office several are still missing. While investigating the Jan. 23 crime, Nye County Sheriff's Office general assignment detectives identified a juvenile who was allegedly selling computers with school district stickers on them. Further investigation led detectives to Rene Ortiz, 19, and an unnamed juvenile who the sheriff's office press release said were "actively selling" the computers out of a trailer here. Two other adults allegedly involved in the crime, David Wood and Nerissa Wood, both 46, were identified by detectives as buying a computer "knowing they were marked with Nye County School District on the box," the sheriff's office press release said. After being arrested, Ortiz was found to have drug paraphernalia and marijuana. A search of Nerissa Wood revealed her to have "a dangerous drug" without a prescription, the press release said. Ortiz, David Wood, and Nerissa Wood were arrested and booked on charges of possession of stolen property, transfer of stolen property, burglary (accessory), conspiracy, and child endangerment. Nerissa Wood was additionally booked with a charge of possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription and Ortiz had added possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia to host of charges. All three suspects were listed as having posted bail on the press release. Four additional juveniles were arrested and turned over to the Nye County Juvenile Probation. The sheriff's office urges anyone who may have purchased a computer under these circumstances to contact general assignment detectives to arrange for a return of the property. Any additional suspects who are involved in any way are also urged to contact general assignment detectives to arrange a time to meet with them immediately.
