Cub Scouts rummage sale The Cub Scouts Pack 808 will have a fundraiser yard sale June 26-29, 1320 W. Mesquite Ave. There will be clothing, toys, tools, electronics, etc. available for sale. Host families needed NWS Peace program is seeking families to host students from Ecuador, Turkey, Brazil, Vietnam, Belgium Finland and various other countries for the 2008 school year. The students are 15-18 years old and will begin arriving in August to spend five to 10 months with a family while attending the local high school. Students are pre-screened and speak English. They are looking forward to learning about our culture and teaching us about theirs. They have medical insurance and spending money for clothes, school supplies and entertainment. Host families are not compensated but may claim a $50 per month charitable contribution on their income tax. Students require a bed, meals and a caring family. Schedule The Pahrump Open Schooling Show dates are: June 28, 6 p.m.; Sept. 13, 6 p.m. and Oct. 25, 9 a.m. Shows are held Saturdays at McCullough Arena. Farmer's market The UNR Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners are sponsoring a farmer's market each Saturday, 8 a.m.-noon at Petrack Park, corner of Highway 160 and Basin Road. Country music meeting The Nye County chapter of the Nevada Country Music Association has been revived and will hold its first general meeting starting with a meet and greet 5-5:30 p.m. July 2 at the StageStop Casino, 100 Stagecoach Road. Worship through the arts The Faith Fellowship is hosting the first annual Worship Through the Arts program 6-8 p.m. every Monday beginning June 30 in the main sanctuary, 921 S. Highway 160, Suite 401. The classes will last for nine weeks and are designed to teach different types of art. There will be four different classes for each session which include guitar, sign language, puppets and painting. Bookstore is overstocked The Friends of the Library Bookstore is having a book sale. There is a fresh supply of paperback and hard cover used books in pristine condition. Prices range from 50 cents to $2. The bookstore is located in the Pahrump Community Library on East Street. They are open 9-7 p.m., Monday-Thursday and 9-5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Donations for Quilts for Cancer Quilts for Cancer volunteers have worked all year to make Christmas stockings for homebound seniors in Pahrump. Two hundred plus stockings need to be filled with nutritious snacks. Volunteers are also working to have a hand-made gift to accompany the stocking which will be distributed in December. Computer users meet The Pahrump Computer Users group will meet at 1 p.m. July 7 in the large meeting room at the Pahrump Community Library. Mosquito season It's mosquito season and mosquitoes can carry diseases such as West Nile Virus. Nye County Emergency Services would appreciate assistance with the prevention of breeding mosquitoes. Food drive The food pantry at No to Abuse is empty. Frazier Furniture is holding a food drive offering up to 10 percent discounts on any stock purchase. For each item donated, you will receive a 1 percent discount up to a maximum of 10 percent. All items must be non-perishable. A complete list of acceptable items is available at the store, 1241 E. Seniors going shopping The Pahrump Senior Center is hosting a bus trip to Primm for seniors who want to "shop until you drop." The bus will leave the VFW on Homestead Road at 8 a.m. July 17 and arrive in Primm at Buffalo Bill's at 10:30 a.m. Participants will receive a voucher for a free lunch buffet and shuttle service to and from the shopping mall will be available at no charge. The bus will leave Primm at 5 p.m. and return to the VFW at 7:30 p.m. Reservations must be made and paid no later than July 15. Call 727-5008 for more information and reservations. The event is limited to adults over 21. 4-H dancing The 4-H is looking for youth 5-19 who want to learn clogging and square dancing. Cost of enrollment is $1 and there may be a slight cost for clogging shoes. Clogging classes are Mondays, 4-6 p.m. and square dancing is Tuesday, 6:15-7:30 p.m. All classes are being held in the 4-H Building, 1651 E. Open your home to the world Teach your family more about the world -- and each other -- by welcoming a foreign exchange student into your home. The EF Foundation for Foreign Study is looking for families to share their America with a talented teen from another country. Our students speak English, are fully insured and bring their own spending money. Host families provide a bed, meals and a loving home. New to hosting and afraid to commit for too long? Some students simply need a welcome to America home for a few weeks while they wait for placement in a permanent home. ARES fundraiser The Amateur Radio Emergency Services is holding a fundraiser by selling raffle tickets for several nice prizes, the top prize being $100 worth of groceries from Smith's. The donation of a pair of shoes will get the donor a steak dinner and a pair of socks will get the donor a meatloaf dinner. The drive ends Aug. 17.
