Mammovan The Nevada Health Centers mammovan will be in Pahrump June 16-18 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Hours are: June 18 -- 8:15-1:45 p.m. They will be closed for lunch 12-12:45 p.m. each day. Occupational illness seminar If you or someone you know, have or have had an illness that may have resulted from exposure to radiation, beryllium, silica or other toxic substances in the course of work for NTS, Tonopah Test Range, Yucca Mountain or another department of the Department of Energy, you may be eligible for federal compensation and related medical expenses. Representatives from the Department of Labor Energy Employees Compensation Resource Center will be in Pahrump 11-1 p.m. June 26 at the Pahrump Senior Center to discuss recent changes to the program. Contemporary worship service Saved by Grace Lutheran Church will have a contemporary worship service at 11 a.m. June 22 in the multi-purpose room at Mt. Charleston Elementary, 1521 E. The traditional service is at 9 a.m. Social Security at Bob Ruud The field representative from the Social Security Administration will be in Pahrump for the monthly visit starting 9 a.m. June 24 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Summer reading program The Pahrump Community Library will hold a summer reading program on the following schedule: Flutter Buzzers -- age 4-5, Tuesday, 9-10 a.m.; Creepy Crawly Critters -- age 6-11, Tuesday, 10:30-11:45 a.m. or Wednesday, 1-2:15 p.m.; Good and Ugly Bugs -- grades 5 and up, Wednesday, 2:30-3:30 p.m. This year's theme is "Catch the Reading Bug." The program is free and includes stories, songs, crafts and fun. Special guest storyteller Jim Cogan, will present "Reading Bug Stories," 10 a.m. June 24. Visit the library to sign up before June 10. Lifeline screening Residents living in and around Pahrump can schedule an appointment for a Lifeline screening to reduce the risk of stroke. Schedule The Pahrump Open Schooling Show dates are: June 28, 6 p.m.; Sept. 13, 6 p.m. and Oct. 25, 9 a.m. Shows are held Saturdays at McCullough Arena. Safety fair The Nye County Sheriff's Office will be in the Wal-Mart parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21 conducting a safety fair. The safety fair will include bike safety, carseat checks, finger printing, tire pressure checks for you car and more. Pahrump Fire-Rescue, Valley Electric and Advanced Medical will have safety displays and information. Saitta-Trudeau will be on hand with one of the new hybrid vehicles, showing off its safety features. There will be a place set aside for the kids to make their own safety posters. The mobile blood facility will be on site for donors until 4 p.m. Singles Club meets The Pahrump Singles Friendship Club will have a Mexican-themed potluck at 6:30 p.m. June 21 in Petrack Park. The EF Foundation for Foreign Study is looking for families to share their America with a talented teen from another country. Our students speak English, are fully insured and bring their own spending money. Host families provide a bed, meals and a loving home. New to hosting and afraid to commit for too long? Some students simply need a welcome to America home for a few weeks while they wait for placement in a permanent home. Food drive The food pantry at No to Abuse is empty. Frazier Furniture is holding a food drive offering up to 10 percent discounts on any stock purchase. For each item donated, you will receive a 1 percent discount up to a maximum of 10 percent. All items must be non-perishable. A complete list of acceptable items is available at the store, 1241 E. VFW update Remember, there is a swap meet the second Sunday of every month 7-3 p.m. in the VFW parking lot. Space rental is $7 if you bring your own table and $10 if you rent a table from the VFW. Gourmet dinners are available at the post every Friday starting at 6 p.m. A donation is requested. The VFW State Department convention will be June 25-28 at both the VFW Post 10054 and at the Nugget. There will be no dinner on that Friday. AGLOW retreat AGLOW, the interdenominational international Christian women's organization, will have an annual retreat 7-9 p.m. June 20 and 9-12 noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. June 21 at the Rock Vineyard Church, Highway 160 next to Smith's Food and Drug. Hoedown The Knights of Columbus 10780 will present a hoedown 6-9 p.m. June 21 at the parish hall of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. There will be live music by Desert Knights, a menu of hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, sherbet, coffee and punch. Beer, wine and soda will be available for purchase. Progressive Choices yard sale Progressive Choices Workshop will have a yard sale 8:30-3:30 June 26-27 at the workshop, 4760 Pahrump Valley Blvd., Suites 9 and 10. The workshop is located between Gamebird Road and Manse Street. Progressive Choices is for the developmentally and mentally challenged and all proceeds will go to an account for a new transport van.
