Nye County District Attorney Bob Beckett was involved in two separate motor vehicle accidents Sunday, June 15, the latter of which resulted in his being arrested and booked on a single charge of driving under the influence.

The first incident, a single-vehicle rollover, occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. in Shoshone, Calif., according to the California State Highway Patrol.

Although the driver is not listed by name on the press release, an employee at Two Star Towing confirmed the company was dispatched to the same incident and the driver listed on their report is Beckett.

In addition, the vehicle towed from Shoshone was registered to the Nye County district attorney.

Beckett rolled over his county-issued 2003 Ford Expedition while southbound on Highway 127 just south of Shoshone, Calif.

Beckett, according to the press release, reportedly told Highway Patrol officers he was "fidgeting with radio" when he drifted onto the dirt shoulder on the west side of the highway.

Beckett then overcorrected, causing the SUV to go into an uncontrolled, four-way skid in a counter-clockwise direction across both lanes of traffic into the opposite dirt shoulder, where the vehicle overturned and landed on its roof.

The district attorney walked away from the rollover with only minor scrapes to his hand.

Beckett reportedly received a ride with the towing company back to Pahrump.

He wasn't in town long, however.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Stephenson, of the Barstow California Highway Patrol office, Beckett was involved in a two-vehicle collision 20 miles north of Baker, Calif. at 8:19 p.m. that evening.

Stephenson confirmed that Beckett was arrested and booked on a single charge of driving under the influence.

His blood-alcohol content rergistered 0.1 percent, and Beckett allegedly said he had ingested one Bud Lite beer.

His arraignment was set for Sept. 2 in Barstow, Calif., Superior Court.

He was reportedly released from custody after several hours.

Beckett could not be reached for comment as of this writing.

Beckett was first elected as Nye County District Attorney in 1995 after moving to Pahrump from Las Vegas.

He has been both a prosecutor and a defense attorney during his 20-year law career.

Beckett has filed to run for Department I Fifth District Judge this year. He faces Marla Zlotek in the primary and, if nominated, incumbent Judge John Davis in the November election.
