Nye County Commissioner Joni Eastley took umbrage at the incorporation brochure put out by the Pahrump Town Board's incorporation advisory board.

Eastley brought up the brochure, which she said she got at a display rack at the Pahrump Nugget, while being addressed by Tim Lockinger, chairman of the Incorporate Pahrump Committee during Tuesday's commission meeting.

Lockinger was quick to point out the brochure was not published by his committee.

"There are some really inflammatory things in here," Eastley told Lockinger.

Later, Eastley spoke to Pahrump Valley Times Reporter Mark Waite and explained her main contention was with brochure's argument that incorporation would mean more local control.

"The assessor, the recorder, the treasurer, the DA, the sheriff, and three county commissioners were elected out of Pahrump and reside in Pahrump, as well as the county manager and the assistant county manager," Eastley said.

The commissioner added that since that was the case, the allegation made in the brochure that Pahrump was governed by Tonopah was false.

"Pahrump was never governed from Tonopah, Pahrump basically governs itself, the county seat happens to be in Tonopah. Tonopah isn't a governing entity."

Eastley also took offense at the brochure's statement that decisions which affect Pahrump were often made in cities outside the valley.

"First of all, there are no cities in Nye County," Eastley said. "Second, any time there is an issue this board discusses that affects the town of Pahrump, I can't even think of any cases where we did not include that on a Pahrump agenda."

Eastley called the brochure's statements "incendiary or inflammatory comments because they're not addressing the real issues, they're just trying to inflame people's passions to vote for incorporation."
