Actor needed

A male actor, age 30-40, is needed for the role of "Simon" in the play "I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young Lady from Rwanda," the play being produced by the Pahrump Arts Council.

The play is scheduled to premiere in October.

Safety fair

The Nye County Sheriff's Office will be in the Wal-Mart parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21 conducting a safety fair.

The safety fair will include bike safety, carseat checks, finger printing, tire pressure checks for you car and more.

Pahrump Fire-Rescue, Valley Electric and Advanced Medical will have safety displays and information.

Saitta Trudeau will be on hand with one of the new hybrid vehicles, showing off its safety features.

There will be a place set aside for the kids to make their own safety posters.

The mobile blood facility will be on site for donations until 4 p.m.

AGLOW retreat

VFW update

The Knights of Columbus 10780 will present a hoedown 6-9 p.m. June 21 at the parish hall of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.

There will be live music by Desert Knights, a menu of hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, sherbet, coffee and punch.

Shakespeare made simple

The Pahrump Community Library and the Tumbleweed Tales Society are sponsoring two workshops for Shakespeare fans.

"Shakespeare Readers Theater" will be 4:30-6 p.m. every Tuesday at the library, where the group reads and discusses Shakespeare's work

"Shakespeare Made Simple" is 10 a.m.-noon every third Saturday of the month beginning June 21.

Sessions are free and are offered to help everyone unlock Shakespeare's language.

Occupational illness seminar

If you or someone you know, have or have had an illness that may have resulted from exposure to radiation, beryllium, silica or other toxic substances in the course of work for NTS, Tonopah Test Range, Yucca Mountain or another department of the Department of Energy, you may be eligible for federal compensation and related medical expenses.

Progressive Choices yard sale

ARES fundraiser

The Amateur Radio Emergency Services is holding a fundraiser by selling raffle tickets for several nice prizes, the top prize being $100 worth of groceries from Smith's.

Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and may be purchased in front of Smith's or Wal-Mart until June 27.

For the Love of Kids and Bikes is taking shoes and socks donations at the Short Branch Saloon in Crystal.

The donation of a pair of shoes will get the donor a steak dinner and a pair of socks will get the donor a meatloaf dinner.

The Beatty Library received a $5,000 grant from Library Services and Technology this funding year.
