Doublewide residence burns
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
The Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue Service was dispatched to a house fire on Piltz Road near Linda Street at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday, June 15. Fire Chief Scott Lewis said heavy smoke was visible on West Piltz when the engines left the station and upon arrival firefighters found a manufactured double-wide home "with heavy fire conditions on the front of the building." "Due to the extreme temperatures that day and the winds we were experiencing, initial fire suppression was hampered," Lewis said. "However, the crews had good access to the interior, full access in the attic areas as well as below the structure, and they did a really good job halting the fire's progress." Although the cause of the fire is being investigated by both the fire department and the state fire marshal, Lewis said, "Right now we're keeping it open as a possible suspect fire." There were no injuries in the fire, and although Lewis said rescue personnel were told there were cats in the vicinity, none was found by rescue workers. Lewis said the residence suffered "moderate damage" but firefighters were able to stop the fire from going past the marriage line of the double-wide. "It was a good effort, considering the conditions," Lewis said. |
