Pahrump Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Pahrump Valley meets at noon every Wednesday in the Pahrump Nugget banquet hall.

Rotary members are a dedicated group of people serving in the community.

Wal-Mart Wall of Heros

If you have a picture of someone who has served or is serving in the military, and would like a picture displayed on the south wall, bring an 8x10 photo with the first and last name, branch of service, dates of service, and phone number. Add $2 for the frame and drop all the information at the customer service desk.

This is a stand alone project not affiliated with any other project or organization. All photos taken to Wal-Mart will stay at Wal-Mart.

Power wheelchairs

The Senior Wheels USA program makes power wheelchairs available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to recipients if they qualify.

Power wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk or self-propel a manual wheelchair and who meet the additional guidelines of the program. No deposit is required.

If the patient's need is for use in the home, call 1-800-246-6010.

Babies in need

Stitches From the Heart needs volunteers to knit, crochet or quilt blankets, little sweaters and hats for babies in need.

These items are donated to hospitals all over the country. Donated yarn is desperately needed for senior's and children's knitting programs.

VA van

A van is available to veterans needing transportation to the Veterans Administration Clinic in Pahrump. The van operates 8-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Call Bob, 751-6126 or Kyler, 727-9752 to be a volunteer driver or for more information.

The Beatty Library summer reading program will begin at 2 p.m. July 2 with sign up.

Classes will be 2 p.m., Wednesdays until July 30

The theme this year is "Catch the Reading Bug" and is open to children between the ages of 5 and 10.

The program will end with a party on the final day.

AGLOW retreat

AGLOW, the interdenominational international Christian women's organization, will have an annual retreat 7-9 p.m. June 20 and 9-12 noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. June 21 at the Rock Vineyard Church, Highway 160 next to Smith's Food and Drug.

The Pahrump Open Schooling Show dates are:

June 28, 6 p.m.;

Sept. 13, 6 p.m. and

Oct. 25, 9 a.m.

Shows are held Saturdays at McCullough Arena.

Awards will go to first place, ribbons will go to first through fifth.

High point for the day will be awarded and youth high point at year-end. PAC and OCAP approved.

Summer reading program

The Pahrump Community Library will hold a summer reading program on the following schedule:

Creepy Crawly Critters -- age 6-11, Tuesday, 10:30-11:45 a.m. or Wednesday, 1-2:15 p.m.;

Good and Ugly Bugs -- grades 5 and up, Wednesday, 2:30-3:30 p.m.

This year's theme is "Catch the Reading Bug."

The program is free and includes stories, songs, crafts and fun.

Special guest storyteller Jim Cogan, will present "Reading Bug Stories," 10 a.m. June 24.

Progressive Choices yard sale

Progressive Choices Workshop will have a yard sale 8:30-3:30 June 26-27 at the workshop, 4760 Pahrump Valley Blvd., Suite 9, 10. The workshop is located between Gamebird Road and Manse Street.

Progressive Choices is for the developmentally and mentally challenged and all proceeds will go to an account for a new transport van.

Quilts 4 Cancer meets

The Quilts 4 Cancer volunteers will meet for a "Christmas in July" at 10 a.m. July 26.

Volunteers will gather to make homemade stockings for Christmas and will need help filling them. The goal is 250 stockings. With each filled stocking a gift will be given.

There will be no host food and beverages. Please show group discount for the meeting room.

Finished items will be given to the Senior Center for Meals on Wheels recipients, Nathan Adelson Hospice, Evergreen Nursing Home and the VFW for home-bound veterans.

ARES fundraiser

The Amateur Radio Emergency Services is holding a fundraiser by selling raffle tickets for several nice prizes, the top prize being $100 worth of groceries from Smith's.

Winners will be announced at the annual field day 2 p.m., June 28 in the Pahrump Nugget parking lot.

Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and may be purchased in front of Smith's or Wal-Mart until June 27.

Actor needed

A male actor, age 30-40 is needed for the role of "Simon" in the play "I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young Lady from Rwanda," the play being produced by the Pahrump Arts Council.

Shoes and socks donations

For the Love of Kids and Bikes is taking shoes and socks donations at the Short Branch Saloon in Crystal.

The donation of a pair of shoes will get the donor a steak dinner and a pair of socks will get the donor a meatloaf dinner.

Hospice cell phone collection

Nathan Adelson Hospice is still working with Collective Good collecting unused cell phones to raise funds and to save the environment. This ongoing project is being reignited for 2008 with the hopes of clearing everyone's closets and dresser drawers of old cell phones.

Drop off places for cell phones have been identified and collection boxes put in place for the convenience of everyone looking for a way of disposing unwanted, out-of-date cell phones. Community partners are Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce, CC's Beauty Zone, Charleston Peak RV Park at the Winery, Wells Fargo Bank, Martinizing Dry Cleaners, Nevada Federal Credit Union, Valley Electric and Nathan Adelson Hospice.

It's mosquito season and mosquitoes can carry diseases such as West Nile Virus.
