Bereavement camps for kids Nathan Adelson Hospice will host two bereavement camps for children who have lost a loved one. The adolescent camp is for ages 13-17 and will be held June 20-22. Drum circle w/Cirque de Soleil There will be a one-day free drumming circle workshop with Cirque De Soleil's Kurt Rassmussen 9:30 a.m. June 23. The program will feature Brazilian-style drumming. Summer reading program The Pahrump Community Library will hold a summer reading program on the following schedule: Flutter Buzzers -- age 4-5, Tuesday, 9-10 a.m.; Creepy Crawly Critters -- age 6-11, Tuesday, 10:30-11:45 a.m. or Wednesday, 1-2:15 p.m.; Good and Ugly Bugs -- grades 5 and up, Wednesday, 2:30-3:30 p.m. This year's theme is "Catch the Reading Bug." ARES fundraiser The Amateur Radio Emergency Services is holding a fundraiser by selling raffle tickets for several nice prizes, the top prize being $100 worth of groceries from Smith's. Actor needed A male actor, age 30-40 is needed for the role of "Simon" in the play "I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young Lady from Rwanda," the play being produced by the Pahrump Arts Council. Self-defense class The Nye County Sheriff's Office and Homeland Heroes will offer two opportunities to take the two-day women's self-defense class free of charge. The classes will be 8-4 p.m. June 12 and 13 at Bob Ruud Community Center. The no-nonsense class is taught by Nye County law enforcement officers. Participants will learn what to watch for and how to be aware of their surroundings; what to do if surprised by an attack; how to get away from an attacker; what not to do when attacked; what to do when attacked and how to neutralize an attacker. Theater Guild 'Spitfire Grill' The Pahrump Arts Council Theater Guild will present a warm-hearted musical that follows the challenges of a young woman just released from prison. Scotty's Castle organ concert Scotty's Castle will host the annual organ concert performed on the Welte-Mignon pipe organ at 7 p.m. June 13, 14 and 15. This year's organist is Donna Parker. Retired/senior program The Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteers need help. This program enables the elderly to stay in their homes by assisting with daily maintenance such as shopping, medical appointments, etc. RSVP reimburses volunteers 24 cents per mile up to $20 per month and carries worker's compensation and excess auto liability on all volunteers.
