Dance classes The Artistic Centre will offer summer fun dance classes for ages 3-18. Classes are available in combination tap and ballet, gymnastics, ballet, tap and jazz and hip hop. Good Sam organizing The Good Sam RV Club will have an organizational meeting to form a new chapter 4:30 p.m. June 7 at the Bob Ruud Community Center, 150 N. Highway 160, corner of 160 and Basin Road. Local chapters are fun, with lots of camaraderie, great friends and camping. In order to start a new chapter, there must be five persons in attendance to be officers. Fish fry Our Lady of the Valley fish fry will be 4-7 p.m. June 6 at the parish hall, 781 E. Gamebird Road. Dinner choices are fried or baked dinners or fish tacos, refreshments included. WestCare free guitar lessons The WestCare House of Blues Foundation is offering sign up for free guitar lessons for participants of Positive Action Prevention classes. The guitar classes are open to youth 12-18 and parents of participating students may also enroll if space is available. The classes start 3 p.m. June 10 at 2280 E. Calvada Blvd, Suite 101. Farmer's market The UNR Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners are sponsoring a farmer's market each Saturday, 8 a.m.-noon beginning June 7 at Petrack Park, corner of Highway 160 and Basin Road. Mosquito season It's mosquito season and mosquitoes can carry diseases such as West Nile Virus. Nye County Emergency Services would appreciate assistance with the prevention of breeding mosquitoes. Summer reading program The Pahrump Community Library will hold a summer reading program on the following schedule: Flutter Buzzers -- age 4-5, Tuesday, 9-10 a.m.; Creepy Crawly Critters -- age 6-11, Tuesday, 10:30-11:45 a.m. or Wednesday, 1-2:15 p.m.; Good and Ugly Bugs -- grades 5 and up, Wednesday, 2:30-3:30 p.m. This year's theme is "Catch the Reading Bug." The program is free and includes stories, songs, crafts and fun. Special guest storyteller Jim Cogan, will present "Reading Bug Stories," 10 a.m. June 24. Visit the library to sign up before June 10. Self-defense class The Nye County Sheriff's Office and Homeland Heroes will offer two opportunities to take the two-day women's self-defense class free of charge. The classes will be 8-4 p.m. June 12 and 13 at Bob Ruud Community Center. The no-nonsense class is taught by Nye County law enforcement officers. Participants will learn what to watch for and how to be aware of their surroundings; what to do if surprised by an attack; how to get away from an attacker; what not to do when attacked; what to do when attacked and how to neutralize an attacker. Pet adoption The Nye County Animal Shelter volunteers will host a pet adoption 10-2 p.m. June 7 at Hollywood Video, 240 S. Highway 160. Caregiver training Nathan Adelson Hospice will hold a two-day workshop to teach individuals caregivers skills for a home/hospice environment June 16-17. The class is free and space is limited. Bereavement camps for kids Nathan Adelson Hospice will host two bereavement camps for children who have lost a loved one. The adolescent camp is for ages 13-17 and will be held June 20-22. Schedule The Pahrump Open Schooling Show dates are: June 28, 6 p.m.; Sept. 13, 6 p.m. and Oct. 25, 9 a.m. Shows are held Saturdays at McCullough Arena. Awards will go to first place, ribbons will go to first through fifth. High point for the day will be awarded and youth high point at year-end. PAC and OCAP approved.
