The back room of the Bob Ruud Community Center was bustling with visitors Wednesday morning, all interested in seeing what the proposed Pahrump Arts and Recreation Complex (formerly known as the fairgrounds) would have to offer.

The Pahrump Alliance Valley Economic Development organization organized an open house and invited members of the community to come and offer their comments and suggestions on the proposed facility.

"I like what I see, and I like the enthusiasm," Wolfgang Lettow said.

Lettow had been chatting with Phil Huff, a member of the Pahrump Arts Council and PAVED, about the proposed theater facility slated for PARC.

At Huff's table, plans for the theater -- including a kitchen, eating area, "shoebox theater" with a 200-person capacity, and indoor/outdoor theater -- were on display.

Huff explained the facility could be used by local dance or performing groups for their rehearsals, lessons, or shows.

The proposed rodeo facilities were also broken out into their own display, complete with a saddle.

Color drawings of the two proposed theme parks were being poured over by residents.

One proposal is a for walking park centered on a Wild West theme. The second would be a water amusement park similar to the old Wet 'N Wild in Las Vegas.

A sports complex is included on the preliminary plan, featuring baseball diamonds, tennis courts and a facility for athletes to stay during tournaments.

"If the tennis courts really happen, I will be very, very, very happy," C.J. Arizona, a 12-year resident of Pahrump said.

Linda Seekings liked what she saw as she looked at the giant preliminary plan. "It looks great," Seekings said. "It'll be a good opportunity for the town and kids."

Visitors were asked to fill out green comment cards and tell PAVED what they would like to see included in the park or about any concerns they have.

Some included concerns PARC would add too much light pollution to the town, requests for a "senior play park" and a query about clogging classes.

PAVED hopes to incorporate resident concerns and requests in its response to Leisure and Recreation Concepts, Inc. the company designing PARC.
