PVHS Renaissance students work on quilt

PVT

Special to the PVTPVHS Renaissance students work on the quilt made from donated PVHS t-shirts. The quilt commemorates some of the school?s history.

This quilt was an idea from the students of the Pahrump Valley High School Renaissance class who thought the heirloom-to-be, made from old PVHS T-shirts, would be a nice way to commemorate the history of the school.

After running briefs in the PVT and posting signs around the school, students collected a variety of T-shirts with the school logo.

Contributions came from the community, students and staff, and some of them date back to the 1970s.

The quilting was done the old fashioned way -- with frames and needles and thread. So the Renaissance class contacted Caroll Zerkle about assembling the quilt. She willingly obliged the students and called in help from Janet Schuh and Anita Martines.

The ladies, who devoted their time to setting up the frames and teaching the girls -- boys too -- to quilt, said they were "honored" to be able to contribute to the young people's project. The students were overjoyed to have help. The quilt was finished a few days ago.

This summer, the students will be working on another quilt to be raffled during the football season.
