Catch the reading bug

SPECIAL TO THE PVT

Once again, the Pahrump Community Library is offering a children's summer reading program as a way to enhance the reading skills of local young people.

Three age groups are scheduled under the umbrella of "Catch the Reading Bug."

Ages 4 and 5 will join the "Flutter Buzzers;" ages 6 through 11 will be the "Creepy Crawly Critters" and grade 5 and up will be "The Good and Ugly Bugs."

As in past years, the children's reading efforts will be rewarded with small prizes. This year, thanks to a generous donation from Friends of the Library, additional prizes for each age group will be awarded at the end of the six-week program.

The children who attend will earn a raffle ticket for the drawing of the top two awards and credit to qualify for the third prize.

At the May meeting of Friends of the Library, Susan Wonderly, library director, announced the top awards in each age group will be a set of four tickets for each of two Las Vegas attractions, Adventure Dome and the Shark Reef. The third prize will be a cash voucher for the Scholastic Book Fair to be held July 28 through Aug. 8 at the library.

The Friends of the Library is a group of local volunteers who support the goals of the library.

"Enhancing the children's program, encouraging their interest and love of books is an ideal way for us to work with the library in fulfilling their mission and ours," said Joan Lewis, veteran member of Friends. Lewis made the motion to support the children's program by contributing the attractive incentives.

Visit the Pahrump Community Library to sign up for the summer reading program. The deadline is June 10.
