Baseball, softball playoffs underway

The Pahrump Little League baseball and fast-pitch softball playoffs will dominate the local sports scene for the next few weeks, with all of the action at Honeysuckle Park.

Upcoming games?

* Today at 7:30 p.m., the Mets and Storm will clash in a Minor Division baseball championship bracket game, after the Red Wings and Muckdogs collide in a losers' bracket contest at 5.

* Major Division games are at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

In games played last weekend, the Thunder came from behind to edge the Red Wings 12-11; the Mets outslugged the Muckdogs 12-9; the Storm edged the Sidewinders 8-7; the Mets stopped the Thunder 13-12 and the Muckdogs eliminated the Sidewinders 9-8.

Tuesday, the Dodgers played the A's and the Yankees took on the Angels in Major Division first-round games.

* In softball, the regular season ends Thursday, with Junior Division playoff games June 7, June 9, June 11 and June 13. The Major Division playoffs are underway, with the tournament to resume Saturday. Subsequent games are June 10 and June 12.

In Major Division softball, the Thunder, Rip Tide, Double Bubble and LadyWildcats will play in a double-elimination tournament. The pairings for the Junior playoffs have yet to be determined.

* Pahrump Valley's Senior Division baseball team, a member of the District 4 Inter-League, plays Las Vegas Cheyenne Thursday at 5 p.m. at Goynes Park.

Saturday, the Trojans are at home against the Red Rock Cardinals to close out the regular season. The twin bill begins at 10 a.m. at Honeysuckle Park.

The Trojans split a doubleheader against Summerlin Saturday.

Also in the league are Red Rock Rockies, Red Rock Red Sox and Spring Valley.

*The Pahrump Valley Post 22 American Legion baseball season starts June 14, with Las Vegas Cimarron-Memorial for a twin bill starting at 5 p.m. at Honeysuckle Park.

Other home games for PV will be June 18 (vs. Bishop Gorman), July 3 (vs. Henderson Coronado) July 7 (vs. Western) and July 16 (vs. Chaparral).

Away games are June 16, at Eldorado; June 28, vs. Sierra Vista at Rivera Park; July 2, vs. Henderson Foothill at Paul Meyer Park, July 12, at Meyer Park vs. Legacy, and July 19, at Rivera Park vs. Shadow Ridge.
