PRIMARY ELECTIONS Voting is your responsibility ... to yourself and our future
The times they are a-changing. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday Aug. 12, polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. You need to research the candidates in your district as well as the state and federal candidates that will appear on your ballot. Be an informed voter prior to entering the voting booth. Voting is not just one of your rights as an American, it is a privilege, take it seriously. Those who win in the primary will proceed to the general election in November. This special section of today's paper is devoted to helping you make a clear and concise decision on who you will vote for in the primary. Early voting is offered at the Nye County Government Complex in Pahrump starting Saturday, July 26 through Aug. 6. They will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In Tonopah you can cast an early vote at the County Clerk's office Saturday, July 26 and Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday through Friday, July 28 through Aug. 1 and Aug. 4, through August 8 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you have questions concerning the location of your polling place, please contact the Nye County clerk's office at 751-7040 in Pahrump or 482-8127 in Tonopah for assistance. Remember, voting in the primary sets the stage for local, state and some federal offices that will be on the general election ballot in November. The upcoming general election, in my opinion, will be the most crucial election since I cast my first ballot in 1976. Our country, the land that we love, is in serious trouble. The decline in the economy, the loss of American jobs, homes in foreclosure, the occupation of Iraq, global warming, and health care are some major issues and concerns facing all Americans. It is your responsibility to research the candidates and vote. Your future and the survival of our future generations and planet depend on it. |
