PRIMARY ELECTIONS Pahrump Town Board
Two seats, each a four-year term Don Rust Incumbent Don Rust is hoping to serve the town another four years and use his seat on the board to ensure town projects already in the works -- such as the Proposed Arts and Recreation Complex and a town-wide recycling program -- come to fruition and succeed. Rust has been a Pahrump resident for 13 years. Margery Kay Behrens Margery Kay Behrens has been a resident of Pahrump for 15 years and is an active member of the Democratic Party in Nye County. Self-described as "loud, obnoxious and tend(ing) not to follow the crowd," Behrens said her main priority if elected would be to represent the people of Pahrump and their wishes. Mike Darby Mike Darby moved to Pahrump two years ago and since then said he's spent a lot of his time attending town meetings and watching local government in action. He is opposed to incorporation and, if elected, would work to ensure Pahrump remains rural. Larky White Larky White, a seven-year resident of Pahrump, defines himself as pro-growth but opposed to incorporation. He advocates fiscal responsibility and focusing the town on resources already available to it. Sean Brooks Sean Brooks, a five-year resident of Pahrump, put his name on the ballot in the name of his children. The candidate is concerned about keeping people in Pahrump and improving the local economy. In addition, Brooks' platform includes fostering a better relationship between the town and the county. Vicky Parker Vicky Parker, a Pahrump resident for over six years and native Nevadan, is an active member of the community involved in a number of local organizations and volunteer groups. Parker is a faithful attendee of town and county commission meetings and plans on using her seat on the board to promote growth. One of her more specific goals if elected is to put walking paths in the park. Lu Komorowski Lu Komorowski has lived in Pahrump for seven years and decided to run out of a concern for the elderly population of the town. She also plans to continue the "beautification" of Pahrump if elected to the board. Komorowski would also like to bring industry to the town. Billy Toler Billy Toler is running for the Pahrump Town for a second time after being defeated in 2006. Toler's main goals if elected include working with the county to bring more business here, fostering tourism and ensuring the rights of animal owners remain protected. (Brian Nelson has withdrawn his name from the race. He wrote a letter to the editor explaining his decision in the Friday, July 11, edition of the Pahrump Valley Times.) |
