Goins tourney The Gene Goins Memorial Golf tournament will be played Thursday and Friday at the Lakeview Executive course, starting at 3 p.m. both days. Boys and girls 7 to 18 are eligible to compete,if they have completed the required golf clinic this summer. Competition is in age groups: 7-8, 9-11, 12-14, and 15-18 in both boys and girls divisions. At Petrack Park Volleyball in the Park will be conducted each Sunday, starting at 6 p.m. at Petrack Park. A grass court net will be set up for all who wish to play. PVHS football Pahrump Valley High School football head coach, Leo Verzilli announced the start of football workouts on the high school football field are ongoing. Workout dress is casual -- T-shirts, shorts and spiked shoes. Times are 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Attendance is not mandatory. Men's One-Pitch The Annual men's One-Pitch all niter will be played starting at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 and 3 in Petrack Park. The entry fee is $150 per team with a five-game guarantee. Forms will be available Monday through Thursday and must be completed by a medical physician. Signups are at 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at the RCMS gym. Bring the completed physical form, proof of insurance (insurance can be purchased through the school) and $50 in cash or money order. No checks will be accepted. First practice is 6 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. Aug. 13 at the RCMS football field. Bring shorts, a T-shirt and black football cleats. The summer practice schedule is Aug. 13-15 and 18-22 at 6 p.m. There will be a scrimmage game with Moapa Valley Aug. 23. Starting Aug. 25, practice will begin right after school and continue to 5 p.m. At RCMS A junior volleyball camp for students grades 6-8 next school year will be held Aug. 25-28 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Rosemary Clarke Middle School gym. Tryouts for the 2008 Lady Sharks team will be Sept. 2-4, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the gym. Another camp for seventh and eighth graders may be held this month. Call 727-7737 for information. Summer hoops The Nye County Sports Association is offering basketball for youngsters 7-18. The camps will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Saturday through Aug. 1 in the Ninth Grade Academy gym. Pop Warner Pop Warner football registration forms for players 5 to 12 years old can be picked up, then completed, at Worden's Farmers Insurance, 2210 E. Commercial Road, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The cost is $180; applicants must bring a copy of their child's birth certificate to register. Practice starts Aug. 1, with eight games to be played. Little League Pahrump Little League Girls Junior Softball defeated Lincoln County 14-4 on Friday and 4-3 on Saturday to become Nevada's State Champions. They head for Tucson, Ariz July 31 until Aug. 6 to play in the regionals against Montana, Southern California, Washington and Oregon. The girls will play a mandatory four games. This is the first year for girls Little League softball and Pahrump's second time to make it to regional play. Pahrump seniors participated in baseball regionals in 2007, in Oregon.
