Registration procedures for PV sports

Fall sports at Pahrump Valley High School will be football, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls cross country, girls golf and volleyball.

To be eligible to participate in preseason workouts, as well as in regular-season action, athletes must be registered, as well as have a physical examination and health insurance coverage.

Proper forms must be picked up at the school before going to a doctor; these forms are now available at PVHS on a table in the main lobby. Physicians, not chiropractors, must conduct the medical examination.

That's the word from the PVHS athletics department.

Every student-athlete must have a new physical examination every year, according to Nye County School District regulations, which means Beatty, Round Mountain, Tonopah and Gabbs have to follow that particular requirement.

If a student-athlete does not have health insurance coverage, he or she can purchase it through the school.

Dates to remember:

* Aug. 4: Early registration will be from noon to 8 p.m. in the PVHS athletics department office. Bring completed physical and registration forms.

* Aug. 11: Final registration will be from noon to 6 p.m. in the PVHS athletics department office. All student-athletes must be registered by this date to be eligible for preseason workouts.

The first day of football practice is Aug. 14, with Leo Verzille the coach.

All other sports start Aug. 18, with Jill Harris directing volleyball, Gene Smith coaching boys soccer, Greg Leseberg in charge of girls soccer, Andy Anderson coaching cross country and Julie Floyd directing girls golf.
