Family to Family Calendar The schedule for Family to Family Connection for May is as follows: July 25 -- Nevada Early Intervention Explore and Learn playgroup, 11 a.m. July 29 -- Baby signs 1-2 p.m. Mondays -- Scrapbooking class, 1-2 p.m. Wednesdays -- Understanding the concepts of parenting, 3 p.m., for parents with children birth to 5 years-old. Little League going to Ariz. The Pahrump Little League have won the games that move them into regional playoffs in Tucson, Ariz. July 31 - Aug. 6. They are still seeking donations to help with the trip. If you would like to contribute gift cards for food, lodging, gas, etc., please mail them to P.O. Box 1138, Pahrump, NV 89041. EAA meeting The Experimental Aircraft Association will hold a monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Aug. 2 in Phil Shallenberger's hangar located at the corner of Helicopter and Jet Place in the Calvada Aeropark. The program will feature a DVD of Airventure (Oshkosh) from 2007. Four copies of the DVD will be given as door prizes. Anyone interested in aircraft may attend. Call 537-1097 for more information. Democratic Central Committee The Nye County Democratic Central Committee will hold a meeting 7 p.m. July 28 in Room B of the Bob Ruud Community Center. Ice cream social Nevada Outreach Training Organization and No To Abuse will have an ice cream social 1-3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Ice cream with sprinkles for everyone and door prizes awarded to a winning ticket. The event is free to all Pahrump citizens as a way of saying thank you for your support of our organization. Call 751-1118 for more information. DAV dinner The Disabled American Veterans will hold the monthly dinner 5-7 p.m. July 25 at the VFW on Homestead Road. Pot roast, mashed potatoes and all the trimmings is on the menu for only $6 per person. All proceeds go to aide the community's disabled vets. Model railroad meeting The model railroaders of all gauges will meet 9 a.m. July 26 at the United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Highway 372. There will be video demonstrations on "how to," and other ideas. There will also be a report on the modular group's progress. The only requirement is an interest in trains. Call 751-2230 or 727-0142 for more information. PAC general meeting The Pahrump Arts Council will hold a general membership meeting 9:30 a.m.-noon August 23 at the Pahrump Community Library. There is a lot of news and a chance to meet the new members and committee coordinators as well as the new board. Bring a piece of artwork for "show and tell." Refreshments will be served. Call 751-6776 for more information. Library needs literacy tutors The Pahrump Community Library is looking for adults interested in becoming adult literacy tutors. As a literacy volunteer, you will help expand the reading world of others. We have an abundance of adult literacy students. Call 727-5930, ext. 19, for more information and to apply. Recital Showcase The Artistic Centre will present the annual showcase at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 26 in the Pahrump Valley High School auditorium. The show is entitled "Celebrating 10 Years of Dance Through Music Genre" and the program includes dance numbers in tap, jazz, combo, hip-hop, ballet and pointe. There will be a gymnastics exhibition. Tickets are $6 at the door. Call 513-1502 for more information. Art for young people The Pahrump Arts Council will sponsor art for young people 11-2 p.m. July 26 at the Pahrump Valley Museum. PAC members teach classes and provide supplies. Learn how to make a "duct tape wallet" or attend the "making cards" class. Participants must be pre-registered. Call Jan, 751-5282 (evenings), for more information. Quilts 4 Cancer meets The Quilts 4 Cancer volunteers will meet for a "Christmas in July" at 10 a.m. July 26. Volunteers will gather to make homemade stockings for Christmas and will need help filling them. The goal is 250 stockings. With each filled stocking a gift will be given. There will be no host food and beverages. Please show group discount for the meeting room. Finished items will be given to the Senior Center for Meals on Wheels recipients, Nathan Adelson Hospice, Evergreen Nursing Home and the VFW for home-bound veterans. Class of '88 change reunion The Pahrump Valley High School class of '88 plans to celebrate a 20-year reunion 7 p.m. Aug. 16 instead of Aug. 9 at the TPC Golf Course instead of the Flamingo in Las Vegas. The reunion Web site is www.pvhsclassof88.com. Goldfield Days The historic Goldfield Days Celebration and Land Auction will be Aug. 15-17. There will be a parade, live music and street dancing, staged shoot-outs, crafts, antiques, bus tours of Goldfield, a western barbecue and much more. Scholastic Summer Book Fair The Pahrump Community Library will hold the Scholastic Summer Book Fair July 28 - Aug. 8 during regular library business hours. There are books, gifts, software, school items and something for everyone. Special guest will be Clifford the Big Red Dog. Proceeds will benefit the library. Hangout night at The Rock All Pahrump teenagers looking for something to do are invited to "hangout" at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 26 at The Rock Vineyard Church, 1370 E. Matthew Lane next to Smith's. Candidates night Over 40 candidates have been invited to participate in a community meet and greet 7 p.m. July 24 at the Artesia Community Center, 6601 S. Fox Blvd., located at the south end of Pahrump. Each candidate will introduce themselves and field questions from the audience. Candidates on all levels have been invited. Progressive Choices dance The Progressive Choices Workshop will host a dance for the developmentally disabled and mentally challenged 7-9 p.m. July 25 at 4760 S. Pahrump Valley Blvd. The dance is open to ages 17-59 with disabilities. There will be a $2 charge for snacks and drinks. Call 751-5221 for more information. Summer/fall rummage sale The Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church will hold a rummage sale 8-4 p.m. on Aug. 1 and 8-1 p.m. Aug. 2 at the church, 1300 E. Highway 372. There will be lots of clothing, linens, crafts, books, household items and appliances. Little Miss and Little Master Interviews will be held for the Little Miss and Little Master contest for all boys and girls ages 4-6 who would like to enter. Girls will interview 10-10:45 a.m. and boys will interview 11-11:45 Aug. 2 at the town annex building, 270 N. Highway 160. Women's fashion show The Pahrump Valley Republican Women will have the annual fashion show at 1 p.m. Aug. 3 in the Pahrump Nugget Events Center. There will be a light luncheon. Candidates platform at Nugget The Pahrump Nugget and the Pahrump Valley Republican Women are co-sponsoring a night for all candidates statewide to present their platform and answer questions from the audience beginning at 6 p.m. Aug. 2 in the Pahrump Nugget Events Center. The format will be handled with questions taken from the floor and presented through a panel to the candidates. The public is invited to attend this structured event. Food drive for local food banks Secret Sisters Boutique is sponsoring a food drive to help restock the pantry at the Pahrump Family Resource Center and No to Abuse. Any non-perishable donation brought to the store at 1161 S. Loop Road next to Ace Hardware, will be matched by the boutique. Call 727-4488 for more information. Nye County Animal Advisory Committee Nye County is accepting applications for people wishing to serve on the Nye County Animal Advisory Committee. Members will assist in drafting new animal ordinances and hear complaints. The application forms may be obtained at the office, 1510 Siri Lane, Suite 2, Pahrump NV 89060, completed and mailed or delivered to that same address or the application form is available online at www.nyecounty.net.
