The Artistic Centre, located behind Radio Shack, is excited to be holding a 10th Anniversary recital on Saturday, July 26. Performers range in age from 3- to 15-years-old and will be dancing 20 dance routines. The numbers will range in style and include tap, jazz, ballet, two hip-hop routines and a gymnastics exhibition.

Dancers will perform four solos and one duet, which will be a comedy.

The performance will be a great showcase of both the students and the new talent that is offering classes at the Artistic Center since January of this year. All of them are retired professionals, according to Mary Alben, artistic director for the studio.

Christy Heaton who is teaching ballet and modern dance worked in the Sacramento Valley Ballet Company.

Tina Beard is teaching jazz, hip-hop, tap and lyrical (a style of dance which incorporates ballet and jazz in telling a story with movement). She came to Pahrump after having a studio in New York City for 10 years.

Jaime Hall, a nationally well-known gymnastics figure, has taken on the gymnastics program at the Artistic Centre in addition to a theater class that will be offered in the up coming season.

Theater is a class that has been offered traditionally at the studio, but was unavailable in 2008. The class will plan a separate theatrical performance for July 2009 in addition to the annual dance recital where the rest of the school performs, as usual for past theater classes.

Thirteen-year-old Kelly Raberge has been involved with the Artistic Centre and dance in general since the first grade. She will perform in seven of the routines this year, including the duet and a jazz solo. "I like to entertain people," said Raberge about her involvement in dance.

"It's entertaining, like going to a musical or watching a movie," said Amanda Albin, tap and ballet combo instructor at the Artistic Centre, about both the upcoming performance and dance in general.

The recital will be at the Pahrump Valley High School auditorium and tickets will cost $6 at the door. There will be two identical performances at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. No children are permitted under the age of 3.

This year's dance classes begin Aug. 11, registration is Aug. 5-7.
