The Pahrump Nugget Events Center was transformed for the fashion show sponsored as a fundraiser by the Pahrump Valley Republican Women last year. This year's fashion showcase will have an added runway for the modeling of the hottest fashions of the season.

Ladies, it's time to check out the hottest styles in fashion at the show sponsored by the Pahrump Valley Republican Women.

The Pahrump Nugget Events Center is the place to be for the annual fundraiser on tap for Sunday, Aug. 3

This event is the largest of their yearly fundraisers and the proceeds are not slated for campaign efforts, even if this is an election year. This venue creates the funding for community support and everyone is welcome.

Through this event, the PVRW funds the Mammovan, which provides mammograms free or at a low cost to valley women. They also use the money to make senior baskets for elderly shut-ins and fund a high school scholarship program for Pahrump Valley High School graduating seniors.

This past school year, two $1,000 scholarships were awarded. Those recipients were James Chapman and Nishelle Robbins. Both students will attend the University of Nevada, Reno, in the fall.

The Nugget Events Center will be decorated in pink and white in the organization's show of support for breast cancer research.

In past years, the models displayed their clothing by walking between the tables. "We've added a real runway this year," said fashion show coordinator Sherry Jasperson, who by the way is not related to Kent Jasperson, a local candidate running for office.

The clothing to be on display includes everything from casual to dressy, Red Hat ensembles and children's apparel mostly provided by local clothing retailers.

Sunflower Fashions, Simplicity and Kimberly's Clothing are all donating time, models, clothing and effort to this production.

Jasperson said the PVRW invite all other businesses to get involved as well by either making a cash donation or having a little more fun by donating $100 to purchase an outfit to be auctioned as part of the afternoon's events.

Businesses need to provide a model for the outfit if at all possible, but if not, the PVRW will assist.

The $100 also purchases a luncheon ticket for the model and exposure and notoriety for the business. The clothing auctioneer will be incumbent Assemblyman Ed Goedhart.

Jasperson said, "We find that people are most generous for the auction." She said they expect to fill the house. About 200 ladies attended the event last year.

The fashion show includes a light luncheon of croissant sandwiches, fresh fruit, tea and coffee and dessert.

It also includes raffles of some wonderful donated prizes. Among the big ticket items are a jewelry package from a local jewelry store, dinner at the Palms Resort in Las Vegas, a Red Hat gift basket, a beauty makeover and a massage and spa package.

Other items include dinners, trips to the salon, auto services, bowling passes and various gift baskets. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

The event promises to be entertaining and fun. It starts at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, in the Pahrump Nugget Events Center.

Tickets are $25 per person and will be on sale at the door.
