LAKE TAHOE -- Pahrump Justice of the Peace Tina Brisebill received the prestigious Distinguished Judicial Education Award at the recent Nevada Judicial Leadership Summit at Lake Tahoe.

"Judge Brisebill has proven herself to be one of Nevada's most dedicated judges," said Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Gibbons. "She has worked to improve her knowledge and judicial skills, and this award reflects that commitment.

"Judge Brisebill also has consistently contributed to the improvement of the state's judiciary by serving on commissions and committees that have worked to elevate the quality of Nevada's courts," Gibbons said.

Brisebill has been Pahrump justice of the peace since 2000. In addition to her role on court committees and commissions, she serves as secretary of the Nevada Judges of Limited Jurisdiction.

The Distinguished Judicial Education Award reflects that Judge Brisebill has completed 640 hours of judicial education. By doing so she has attained the third of four levels of education.

The summit at Lake Tahoe in May brought together all levels of the Nevada Judiciary -- the supreme, district, justice, and municipal courts -- in addition to court administrators for an educational seminar. The judiciary holds such summits every four years.

The summit covered many topics of judicial importance. Mark Curriden of Vinson and Elkins, spoke on "Contempt of Court: A Lesson in Legal History," and Professor Erwin Chemerinsky, Duke University School of Law, reviewed U. S. Supreme Court Opinions of the past year.

Other sessions evaluated current Nevada criminal, civil and family court opinions.
