The tax rate in Tonopah will rise slightly in the fiscal year that began July 1, with a hike in the Tonopah Library District rate.

Elsewhere, tax rates remain unchanged in Nye County.

The combined Tonopah tax rate rises slightly from $3.35 per $100 of valuation to $3.38. The Tonopah town tax is 36.4 cents per $100, the Tonopah Library District 17 cents. That's added onto the county, school and state tax rates.

Property in Nevada is taxed at 35 percent of the taxable value. A property valued at $100,000 then would be taxed at $35,000. The $3.38 combined tax rate in Tonopah would then amount to an annual tax bill of $1,185 for a property assessed at $100,000.

The Nye County tax rate of $1.34 per $100 of valuation and the Nye County School District rate of $1.33 form the majority of the tax. Nevada levies another 17 cent tax.

The Nye County School District has a 75 cent per $100 property tax rate set by law, the district then taxes another 58.5 cents to pay off bonded debt.

Nye County's rate includes 99.5 cents per $100 of valuation for the general fund. The remainder of the county $1.34 rate per $100 of valuation includes:

* Ten cents for a juvenile probation tax;

* 6.7 cents for the medical and general indigent fund;

* Five cents for the road fund;

* Five cents for special capital projects;

* 3.9 cents for health clinics;

* Two cents for a dedicated county medical tax;

* 1.7 cents for a capital projects fund;

* 1.5 cents for the agricultural extension service;

* 1.5 cents for a state medical indigent fund;

* 1.1 cents for the museum fund;

* 0.6 cents for youth service;

* 0.5 cents for the 911 emergency phone system.

The combined property tax rate was highest in Amargosa Valley, with $3.65 per $100 of property valuation, the maximum cap permitted under state law.

The lowest rate was in the rural areas outside of any town, library or general improvement district, $2.85 per $100.

Pahrump residents will pay the same $3.12 per $100 of valuation. The owner of property in Pahrump valued at $100,000 being taxed at $35,000 of it under state law would pay $1,092 in annual tax.

In Beatty, Manhattan and Gabbs the combined rate is $3.33 per $100.
