4-H seeks sponsors

The 4-H livestock projects will again host the livestock shows, exhibitions and auction at the Pahrump Fall Festival Sept. 25-28.

This coming year provides an opportunity for the community to support and encourage youth to be involved in productive activities that build knowledge, leadership and pride in a job well done.

The 4-H programs teach youth the importance of proper care, showmanship techniques, and to share knowledge about their animal.

During the Fall Festival the entire livestock area is set up and taken down by local 4-H members and their families. It involves two days of working after school and evenings setting up lights, pens and exhibits. It also involves hours of organization and preparation.

The organization is seeking assistance in providing sponsorships and there are a number of options.

A general sponsorship is a contribution of $50, $100, $250 or $500. This would assist with the incindental costs of the shows and provide premium prize money for participants.

Each show entails judges, a photographer, an auctioneer, awards and premiums.

The names of the general sponsors will be placed on the 4-H appreciation board.

A banner sponsorship is at the $500 level and those sponsors will have a three-foot by five-foot banner displayed in the arena.

Show sponsorship is the opportunity to sponsor the entire showing of individual categories. The Poultry Show sponsorship is $400, Breeder Doe is $600, Open Youth Goat Show is $2,000 and the Livestock Show is $2,500. Acknowledgement will be in the form of a banner in the arena. Those wishing to sponsor a show are subject to committee approval and interest must be received by Aug. 15.

Support also comes to 4-H by way of the auction. They are building a list of buyers who will commit to purchasing an animal through the livestock auction to be held Saturday, Sept. 27.

The 4-H/FFA lambs and goats on the block are hand-raised and fed.

Following the auction, animals will be transported to a licensed, custom butchering house and returned to the buyer ready for the freezer. Animals will be sold at a per-pound price.

It takes a lot of time and effort from these young people to make it to the fair. Whether the reward is a ribbon, money or a championship banner, it is important for them to remember that Pahrump is a place to grow, compete and have fun.

Southern Nye County 4-H is a nonprofit educational youth organization helping to build leadership and life skills in the adults of tomorrow.
