A preliminary hearing for Nye County Commissioner Peter Liakopoulos has been set for 10 a.m. Sept. 19 at Pahrump Justice Court before visiting Judge Stephen Dahl of Las Vegas.

Liakopoulos faces two felony charges of asking or receiving a bribe by an executive or administrative officer as well as two misdemeanor counts of offering a reward for an appointment and grafting by a public officer.

Charges were handed down by the Nevada Attorney General's office May 30, based on allegations Liakopoulos attempted to persuade Pahrump Town Board members to appoint his wife as curator for a veteran's memorial in return for voting favorably on a half-cent sales tax increase.

Liakopoulos' attorney Tom Pitaro faxed a plea of not guilty during the arraignment June 23 and asked that an out-of-town judge be appointed for this hearing.
