Dozen will compete in Miss Pahrump Pageant

A dozen young women will compete for the title of Miss Pahrump during the 32nd annual pageant at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pahrump Valley High School Auditorium. Tickets cost $12 and are available from the individual contestants. Pageant organizers expect the event may sell out, with a lot of families and friends in attendance, as the auditorium only holds 200. But any remaining tickets can be obtained at the door. The pageant was founded in 1976 as a competition for the rodeo queen. The winner will receive scholarship money and appear in numerous events including the Governor's Ball in Carson City and the Pahrump Fall Festival parade. Contestants are judged on their photogenic quality, talent show, sportswear competition, interview, formal wear and essay competition, (which can be submitted in lieu of the talent show). Jill Wulfenstein, 16, was crowned the winner in last year's pageant by 2006 winner Devyn Moen. The contestants and some selected biographical data listed on their application forms include in no particular order: * Brooke Lea Errett, 14, is an eighth-grade student at Rosemary Clarke Middle School. She likes skating and belongs to the drill dance team. She will be skating for her talent competition. * Ashley Nicole Payton, 17, a junior at Pahrump Valley High School, is active in cheerleading, track and belongs to the American Junior Paint Horse Association. Ashley will perform a dance number. * Avery Paige Moen, 15, a sophomore at Pahrump Valley High School, competed in last years pageant. She boasts a 3.5 grade point average, participates in soccer, track and belongs to the Renaissance club. She will do a monologue for the talent contest. * Shelby Lanae Hughes, 15, is a Pahrump Valley High School student. She boasts a 4.0 grade point average, participates in soccer, track and belongs to the student council. She will be dancing in the talent contest. * Elisabeth Marie Colucci, 15, is a sophomore at Pahrump Valley High School. She participates in cheerleading and dance, belongs to a young women's group at her church, worked on the school yearbook for three years and belonged to the art club. She is planning a dance routine. * Chelsea Amber Beckett, 17, a senior at Pahrump Valley High School, participated in last years pageant. She is a member of the varsity cheerleading squad, is senior class president of the student council and works on the school yearbook. She will dance during the talent competition. * Aubrey John, 16, a junior at Pahrump Valley High School, participated in last years pageant. She participates in a variety of sports including track, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, baseball and softball, Aubrey also dances and belongs to the student council and the drill team. Aubrey will play the piano during the talent competition. * Rachel Ann Maughan, 14, a freshman at Pahrump Valley High School, is on the school honor role and honor society, belongs to the dance team, runs track and outside of school belongs to a Latter Day Saints church youth group. She will play the piano and sing during the talent show. * Sara Ann Wulfenstein, 14, is a freshman at Pahrump Valley High School. She was on the honor roll, freshman class president, plays volleyball, basketball and track as well as dance. She belongs to a Latter Day Saints youth group. Sara will perform a dance routine. * Chaelene Marie Jones, 16, a junior who is home-schooled, participated in last year's pageant. Charlene likes horseback riding and takes dance classes at the Artistic Centre. She will sing during the talent competition. * Samantha Ann Miltier, 15, is a freshman enrolled in the Pathways program. Her talent is in singing, which she will do during the talent show. * Michelle Clarra Schulz, 17, a student at Pahrump Valley High School, plays volleyball and basketball. While in eighth grade she was on the A honor roll and took first place in the spelling bee. Michelle will sing during the talent competition. |
