Four juveniles, two burglaries, one adult = five arrests

Four juveniles and one adult were arrested Saturday, June 12, for burglarizing the Threadz clothing store twice in two weeks.

Nye County sheriff's deputies were first dispatched to the store, located at 1201 S. Loop Road, Friday, June 4, when the burglary alarm went off.

Upon arriving, the deputies confirmed a burglary had occurred.

One week later, June 11, the alleged thieves again broke into the store and set off the alarm.

"This time there was extensive damage and numerous items taken," the sheriff's office press release stated. Using video surveillance and reliable witnesses, sheriff's deputies and general assignment detectives were able to determine the burglaries had been committed by four unnamed juveniles ranging in ages from 14 to 17.

The investigation also revealed an alleged adult accomplice, Steve Witherell, 18, had assisted in the thefts.

A search warrant executed on the homes of the juveniles and Witherell revealed numerous items of stolen property from Threadz.

Subsequent interviews with the four juveniles revealed that Witherell had allegedly transported the youths to the store to commit the burglaries and was there when they occurred.

In addition, Witherell allegedly "further obstructed deputies and detectives' efforts to solve the case by trying to cast blame from the juveniles," the sheriff's office report said.

The four unnamed juveniles were turned over to Juvenile Parole and Probation.

All were booked on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, burglary, grand larceny and malicious destruction of private property.

Witherell was taken to the Nye County Detention Center and booked on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, burglary, grand larceny , malicious destruction of private property, accessory to a felony and child endangerment.

His bail amount was not listed.

Nye County detectives are still seeking one involved juvenile and unrecovered stolen merchandise.
