The heat finally broke for rain Thursday afternoon, but the stormy weather caused some Pahrumpians to be briefly without power when a Valley Electric Association power line at Homestead Road and Highway 160 broke.

The broken power line made contact with a downed guy wire attached to the new Homestead Road traffic light and then made contact with the ground.

Nevada Highway Patrol representatives were on the scene immediately and stopped traffic in order to prevent injuries.

Nevada Department of Transportation representatives were also on hand.

About 490 VEA customers were left in the dark as a result of the incident but had power restored in about 20 minutes.

By 6:48 p.m. full power was restored to the 25 commercial customers along Highway 160.

There were no injuries.
