Fishing Report
QUAGGA REMINDER: NDOW is asking boaters to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of quagga mussels from the Colorado River system to other waters. Thoroughly clean, drain and dry your boat, trailer and towing vessel before traveling to another water. EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR Reports of low water conditions are exaggerated. An on-the-ground assessment by an NDOW fisheries biologist found the water to be down only about 18 inches, normal for this time of year. To catch rainbow trout fish early in the morning and late in the evening with worms or PowerBait. ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR Two-color jigs are catching crappie. Flavors of the week include black and white as well as red and chartreuse. Try spinnerbaits and plastics for largemouth bass hiding near structure. Trout are holding in deep water along the dam. LAKE MEAD Anglers looking for some fishing fun may want to try the Vegas Bay Arm for some top-water striper action. The striped bass aren't huge but they are fun to catch. For larger fish try cut bait fished in deeper water. Boaters are finding success for striped bass while using cut bait along the beaches between Hemenway and Pyramid Island. Shore fishing has been slow though anglers are pulling in some striped bass and catfish. LAKE MOHAVE Trout fishing was slow at Willow Beach over the holiday weekend though anglers were catching fish on PowerBait, spinners and flies. Most success came downstream of the picnic area. The new fishing pier is open. At Cottonwood Cove trolling near the mouths of coves continues to bring success for boaters hoping to net a striped bass. Bucket mouths are taking top-water hardware. Shore anglers throwing bait and hardware are catching striped bass to the north and south of the marina. LAUGHLIN No Report. WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA Fishing continues to be good for rainbow trout and largemouth bass. PowerBait, worms, spinners and flies are all catching the rainbows. Spinnerbaits and plastics are taking the bass. Keep in mind that Nevada's boating regulations apply on the management area as they do elsewhere. URBAN PONDS Fishing for green sunfish and bluegill is good at Lorenzi Park. The pond at Floyd Lamb is giving up bluegill as well as bass and catfish. Anglers also should find good fishing for bluegill at Sunset Park and Veteran's Memorial Park in Boulder City. Mealworms fished on small hooks are a good bait option for bluegill and sunfish. The Nevada Department of Wildlife is planning to stock the urban ponds with catfish during the week of July 21. |
