A fire scorched approximately six to seven acres of vacant lot on Bell Vista Avenue and Leslie Street Tuesday afternoon.

Although there were no injuries or structures damaged in the fire, light winds kept the entire Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue Service busy extinguishing smaller fires on the periphery for over an hour.

Fire Chief Scott Lewis said he did not know the point of origin for the fire as of Tuesday afternoon but said a number of smoking materials discarded along the roadway on Bell Vista would be closely investigated as a possible source of a fire.

Three brush trucks, two engines, a water tender and a command vehicle were all dispatched to the scene to help control the fire which spread into what are called "fingers," or lengthy stretches of burning ground separate from other burning areas.

The fire was called in at 2:45 p.m. and mostly extinguished by 3:45 p.m.
