The Threadzfest "extreme" sports competition is mainly sponsored by Ace Hardware and staged Saturday at Honeysuckle Park.

The Threadzfest skateboarding and bike event is operating as a "jam" format.

That means it is an open forum for all skaters and riders to compete together within their respective sport-specific session.

The jam-style arrangement is more relaxed and encourages competitors to try different maneuvers and tricks. There will be a best trick award at the end of the event for all competitors.

The main rule: All participants are required to wear helmets in order to compete.

Registration begins at noon with the competition to start at 2 p.m.

Each competition offers 50 entry positions and is open to both male and female competitors age 6 and up.

Contest categories for skateboarding are SK8 13 and under and SK8 14 and up. BMX will be open to everyone.

The categories are subject to change due to special interest or the enrollment and event.

Contest registration forms are available at Threadz and on the Web site www.threadzfest.com.

There is a $10 entry fee and all participants under age 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a liability waiver. The competitions fill quickly so all participants should arrange to arrive early.

The judging is based on performance in two heats which are approximately five minutes in length, with up to seven competitors participating at once.

Scoring is based on variety, style, skill and amplitude. The scores will be combined to get a total for each competitor and determine first-, second- and third-place winners.

The judges will be volunteers from local skate shops, bike shops, industry-related representatives and local volunteers.

Awards will be announced at the end of the event.
