Candidate's day

The Maverick Club will host a day for all the available candidates for public office to meet and greet the public 12-3 p.m. July 13 at 340 E. Mesquite Ave.

Any candidate who has not sent an R.S.V.P., please call Jim, 775-727-1401 to respond. This will be an important opportunity for the public to meet all of those running for office.

The Sunday jam session will start at 3 p.m. as scheduled in the club.

Amateur Radio license exams

Examination for Amateur Radio licences will be held at noon, July 19 in the Nye County Office of Emergency Services, 1510 Siri Lane.

VFW July

There is a swap meet every second Sunday in the VFW parking lot. Spaces rent for $7 earch if you provide your own table and $10 each if you rent one from the VFW.

Friday dinner is 5-7 p.m. and donations are accepted as payment.

VFW and Auxiliary meets the third Saturday at 1 p.m. Cooties VFW meets at 11 a.m.

Pahrump Gunfighters

The Pahrump Gunfighters are looking for new faces and talent for skits and shootouts.

The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. July 12 in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Pet adoption

The Nye County Animal Shelter volunteers will host a pet adoption 10-2 p.m. July 12 at Hollywood Video, 240 S. Highway 160.

Adoption fee for dogs is $64 and $36 for cats and kittens.

Fun at the pool

The Nye Communities Coalition is sponsoring a Fun in the Sun community picnic and family night 4-8 p.m. July 12 at Petrack Park in the pool area.

The fun starts at 4 p.m. with swimming from 5-8 p.m.

There is no charge for the event and hot dogs hamburgers, drinks and treats will be provided.

This is a smoke- and alcohol-free event.

AGLOW meets

Pahrump AGLOW will meet at 9:30 a.m. July 19 at The Rock Vineyard Church, beside Smith's Food and Drug.

There will be refreshments served starting at 9 a.m. and childcare is provided.

The Pahrump Valley Community Action Team will have a general meeting at 5 p.m. July 10 at Nevada JobConnect.

Volunteer training Nathan Adelson

Nathan Adelson Hospice will hold volunteer training classes 8-5 p.m. July 21 and 22 in the hospice conference room, 1480 E. Calvada Blvd., Suite 900.

The classes cover particulars needed for working with patients, their families, running errands and office work.

Salvation Army summer reading

The Salvation Army will have a summer reading program for struggling and/or reluctant readers for kindergarten through middle school students 1-2:30 p.m. July 22, 23, 24 at the Salvation Army, 721 S. Buol Lane.

Volunteer tutors will assist students.

Insurance 101 luncheon seminar

The Pahrump Chamber of Commerce will host a lunch and learn health insurance seminar for its members at the monthly business luncheon at 11:35 July 14 at Terrible's Lakeside.

Learn how the U.S. healthcare system really works; what really drives the increasing cost of healthcare; how to increase benefits and reduce cost and how to minimize increases in healthcare costs.

The luncheon is open to chamber members.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser

There will be a spaghetti dinner fundraiser 5-7 p.m. July 13 at the Bob Ruud Community Center to benefit the girls little league softball.

This is the first of many fundraisers. Look for bake sales, car washes and more from the girls softball. They need all the help they can get.

Tickets may be purchased from any All-Star player or coach.

Tournament play is expected to begin the third week in July in northern Nevada.

Worship through the arts

The Faith Fellowship is hosting the first annual Worship Through the Arts program 6-8 p.m. every Monday beginning June 30 in the main sanctuary, 921 S. Highway 160, Suite 401.

The classes will last for nine weeks and are designed to teach different types of art.

There will be four different classes for each session which include guitar, sign language, puppets and painting.

No child care will be provided and children under age 10 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Employment training for youth

GNJ Family Life Center is offering employment and training-related services to youth ages 14-21.

The services include tutorials, job placement assistance, GED preparation, high school proficiency tutorials and more.

You must meet eligibility requirements and bring a copy of your birth certificate, your Social Security card and a picture ID to the appointment.
