Kiwanis needs donations The Kiwanis Club of Pahrump Valley is taking donations for their yard sale. Call Ken, 209-3751 or Vonda, 513-8952, for more information. Hunter safety course The Nevada Department of Wildlife and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will sponsor a hunting safety course which is mandatory for all first-time hunters. The classes will be held July 21-26. The schedule is 6-8 p.m., Monday through Friday and 10-2 p.m. on Saturday at 3360 California St. All classes must be attended in order to complete the course. To sign up, contact the NDOW online at www.ndow. org where you can register and complete the online workbook. The workbook must be completed before class begins. Workbooks are also available at WR Sporting LLC, 111 S. Frontage Road, Suite 6. The cost is $5. Call Walt, 537-0448, for more information. Team forming for Relay for Life The High Desert Linedancers are sponsoring a team for the Relay for Life in August. If you have not already signed up for a team, we would love to have you. The event takes place 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Aug. 16, at Petrack Park. There will be food, entertainment and camaraderie as participants walk to honor cancer survivors and pay tribute to loved ones who lost the cancer battle. Family to Family Calendar The schedule for Family to Family Connection for May is as follows: July 4 -- Closed July 8 -- Family vehicle safety class, 10 a.m., call to register. July 11 -- Nevada Early Intervention Explore and Learn playgroup, 11 a.m. July 15 -- Nutrition Teen Parenting class in collaboration with WIC, 2 p.m. July 18 -- Family vehicle safety class, 10 a.m., in Spanish, call to register. July 22 -- Car seat safety class in Amargosa at the Apostle Assembly. July 25 -- Nevada Early Intervention Explore and Learn playgroup, 11 a.m. July 29 -- Baby signs 1-2 p.m. Mondays -- Scrapbooking class, 1-2 p.m. Wednesdays -- Understanding the concepts of parenting, 3 p.m., for parents with children birth to 5 years-old. Thursdays -- Mommy and me play group, 1 p.m. The resource lending library is open 9-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Call 751-5898 for more information and to set appointments or register for classes. Relay registration deadline The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Pahrump is just around the corner. All teams need to be registered by July 8 to ensure the timely arrival of the logo T-shirts. The event will be held Aug. 16. To register, call 751-2423. Thanks to the community The Ms. Senior Golden Years USA Board of Directors would like to thank this wonderful community and all of the businesses who supported our successful pageant this year. You make it possible for us to continue in our volunteer efforts to assist seniors and those who are less fortunate. On behalf of B.J. Hetrick-Irwin and the board of directors, we thank you. PVCAT float The Pahrump Valley Community Action Team will have a float in the Fourth of July parade on Friday. The theme of the float is "Let Freedom Ring" and Charlie Benefante will be dressed as Lady Liberty. Those walking with the float will hand out lollipops and PVCAT flyers. Employment training for youth GNJ Family Life Center is offering employment and training-related services to youth ages 14-21. The services include tutorials, job placement assistance, GED preparation, high school proficiency tutorials and more. Call Kerry Schilling, 537-2753 to schedule an appointment. Her office is located in the JobConnect building, 2101 E. Calvada Blvd. You must meet eligibility requirements and bring a copy of your birth certificate, your Social Security card and a picture ID to the appointment. Spaghetti dinner fundraiser There will be a spaghetti dinner fundraiser 5-7 p.m. July 13 at the Bob Ruud Community Center to benefit the girls little league softball. This is the first of many fundraisers. Look for bake sales, car washes and more from the girls softball. They need all the help they can get. Tickets may be purchased from any All-Star player or coach. Tournament play is expected to begin the third week in July in northern Nevada.
