Bond money funds improvements
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
Summertime is one of the busiest times of year for Bob Whimpey, director of maintenance and operations for the Nye County School District. While the students are out enjoying their summer vacation, that's when the maintenance crews get to work making general repairs and improvements on the district's schools. At the June 26 school board meeting, many of these improvements got the green light to continue with the board's acceptance of bids on various projects. * Here in Pahrump, J.G. Johnson will have a new video surveillance system installed. The project will be completed by Eagle Technical Services for $44,656.98. The project will be completed using bond funds. In addition, the school will have work done on its hot water system by Clearwater Mechanical Inc. for a total cost of $102,000, also funded with bond money. * J.G. Johnson students who begin the next academic year will also notice site improvements and have new playground equipment completed by Snowden Landscape Inc. for $44,7000, also paid with bond funds. * Pahrump Valley High School will be freshened up with new exterior stucco and a patch and paint job to be completed by Palmetto Construction Inc. The project will be funded with $53,519 of capitol projects funds. * Manse Elementary School will also have a new video surveillance system installed, also by Eagle Technical Services, for $48,458 of bond funds. * In the northern part of the district, the board approved a bid from Carpet Center Inc. to put vinyl flooring in the main hallway of Tonopah High School for $49,500. * Gabbs School will have its furnace rebuilt by System Mechanical for $59,585 of bond funds. * And finally, classrooms district-wide will be re-carpeted by Carpet Center Inc. for $2.10 per foot of carpet. |
