13TH INFERNO IS ON FOURTH OF JULY

The Gene Goins Memorial, the premiere event on the Pahrump Valley Junior Golf Association's schedule each summer, will be played July 24-25 at the Lakeview Executive course.

The tournament on the par 58, 3,500-yard course will start at 3 p.m. each day. Boys and girls 7 to 18 years old are eligible to play, if they have completed the required clinic.

The entry fee is $10 for two-day tournaments.

Two more weekly tournaments -- Monday and July 14 -- will be played before the Goins event.

The fall-winter season begins Sept. 6, with subsequent tournaments Oct. 4, Nov. 1 and Dec. 8 in 2008, Jan. 10, Feb. 7, March 7, April 4 and May 2 in 2009.

The 2009 clinic is scheduled June 15-16-17 at Mountain Falls. The summer tournaments will be played June 22, June 29, July 6, July 13 and July 20.

*The next major junior golf-related event is the 13th annual Pahrump Valley Open Inferno at Lakeview. There will be a shotgun start at 7 a.m., with the entry fee $30 per player.

Competition for the medal play tournament is in men's, women's and seniors (65 and over) flights.

Make checks payable to the Pahrump Valley Open Inferno and mail entries to 2440 S. River Plate, Pahrump, NV 89048. Entries can also be dropped off at Worden Insurance. Proceeds benefit the Pahrump Youth Golf Founders Club.

*Monday, 48 players competed in a weekly tournament at Lakeview.
