Two resign in Beatty, one stays on board

Two members of the Beatty Town Advisory Board announced their resignations at the board's June 25 meeting.

Chairman Bert Bertram resigned as chairman, but will be staying on the board. Kitty Shubert resigned from the board altogether.

A partial cause for the resignations appears to be what has become a somewhat strained relationship among some of the board members.

Bertram said it had been an honor to serve as chairman, but in a letter explaining his decision, he said, "I find myself advocating a course that is somewhat at odds with the majority of the board members and do not feel that defending that course alone is the proper role for the chairman. I would prefer instead to defer to the majority for the chairmanship and remain as a member to pursue what I consider to be in the best interests of Beatty."

Shubert kept the reasons for her resignation private and thanked everyone for the opportunity she has had to serve.

She said she still plans to attend meetings as a member of the audience, and that maybe she can contribute ideas and be helpful.

There were few action items on the agenda for the meeting.

The board did approve $2,400 to be paid to TJK Consulting for engineering services in preparing the request for proposal in going to bid for installation of the decorative street lights.

No action was taken on the Beatty Area Plan since some needed maps were not yet ready.
