In the Friday, June 27 edition of the Pahrump Valley Times, several errors were made in the article "Car fires increase with hot weather."

If you see smoke and suspect a fire, do not open the hood.

However, if your car breaks down and there is not a fire, opening the hood is a known method of signaling distress.

If it is unsafe to open the hood, opening the trunk instead can also signal distress.

The Times regrets the error.
