Pahrump Valley basketball teams have played in many key games over the last several years. Friday night, add two more to the list. And if ever a full house was expected, this is the time.

The Trojans will host Mesquite Virgin Valley in a Southern Nevada Class 3-A League doubleheader, starting at 6 p.m.

Pahrump Valley's girls (4-1 league, 20-7 in all games) and Virgin Valley (5-0, 21-2) will collide in the opener. The teams collided earlier this month, with the Lady Bulldogs winning 42-38 at Mesquite.

At stake will be the No. 1 seed in the Southern regionals, to be played Feb. 14 and 16 at Del Sol High School in east-central Las Vegas.

Pahrump Valley was the state runnerup in the 2006-2007 season; the trek to the Nevada semifinals this season for coach Bob Hopkins' team goes through Virgin Valley.

The PVHS and Virgin Valley boys clash at 7:30 p.m. The Trojans, who were 14-11 in all games when they tangled with Las Vegas Trinity Christian (14-7) Tuesday night, are 2-3 in the league.

Virgin Valley is 2-3, 12-11, including a 60-43 conquest of the Trojans at Mesquite a couple weeks ago.

At the moment, Las Vegas Faith Lutheran (5-0, 17-6) leads the league, with Overton Moapa Valley (3-2, 11-12) second. The Trojans or the Bulldogs will greatly enhance their shot at the playoffs with a victory Friday.

A sweep of their remaining games could vault the Trojan boys to the No. 2 seed, which should give coach Lonnie Shereck's team -- a state semifinalist in the 2006-2007 season -- sufficient incentive.

Pahrump Valley's girls went 3-0 in league games last week, defeating Overton Moapa Valley 57-28, Boulder City 72-28 and Faith Lutheran 32-30.

The PV boys downed Moapa Valley 59-58 and Boulder City 46-38 before bowing 74-46 to Faith Lutheran.

In other league games last week, Virgin Valley's girls defeated Moapa Valley 42-27, while the MV boys prevailed 41-34. In both cases, the winning team swept the season series.

There were two league twin bills Tuesday, with Faith Lutheran going to Virgin Valley and Boulder City traveling to Moapa Valley.

Friday, Faith Lutheran is at Boulder City.
